2021-09-24 05:18:16 +0000 UTCThis episode is a perfect hour of TV. I love everything about it. How the flashback conversation informs the battle as it's going on. It's all so good. The writers on the show are master manipulators themselves because they can make you start out liking a character and then hating them a few episodes later and vice versa. If Rogers had any sense he'd be angry at the mess he woke up to, the mess Eleanor created for him. He's got a resistance forming, the streets are mad at him and he just lost countless men and ships in a fight she sent them to. But birds of a feather, I guess. Both Eleanor and Hornigold's arrogance in thinking they know Flint so well. Maybe they do but they don't know Silver and neither realized they were going up against a tag team here of Flint & Silver.

They utilize the Dobbs storyline in such a clever way to create tension, so that you get a thrill when you realize he's been following orders the whole time. Has to be somewhere in my top 5 episodes, although my favorite episode is still to come!

2021-09-23 08:00:38 +0000 UTCI’ve always felt that Black Sails is like watching a classic story but live in the present and this ep perfectly encapsulates that feeling. Usually in shows/films a story will be told in the present about the past. In this, the amazing Flint/Silver conversation takes place the night before but frames the present battle. This creates the feeling that I’m witnessing a legendary tale being told in front of our eyes. No other show has come close to evoking this atmosphere. The evolution of Silver from the sneaky, mischievous ‘cook’ to Long John Silver is something to behold and should be the template on how to write a character arc. And incredibly is yet to be complete! The last 5 mins of this ep from Flint & Silver staring down each other across the lake to the intertwined telling of the creation of LJS by Billy and Max, overlaid by the round table of captains, queens and pirate kings is my fav ending/scene ever. My favourite episode of Black Sails and TV.. unless you view 4.9/10 as one 2 part finale, then it’s tied haha

2021-09-23 07:53:51 +0000 UTCAll the character arc’s on this show are amazing. But I don’t think I enjoyed a character arc more than Long John Silver. Him and flint both are amazing to watch. But to think of where Silver started and even just to where he is at the end of season 3 is amazing. Let alone how he ends and goes into the Treasure Island story. Just a master class of story telling. This episode I could watch over and over again, Flint and Silver’s dialogue in between the battle was so amazingly done.
