House of the Dragon Episode 1 REACTION!! (full watch-a-long)

Viserys (The King now), actually got to ride on Balerion The Black Dread. I so wish, tne writers would write a few minutes of the show dedicated to that, just so everyone could see how magnificent and huge that Dragon was, instead of only giving us a skull to look at. Joellie Pricefield I'm sorry to hear that you had the same issue. I'm also a little happy to hear that I am not the only one. I was feeling a little crazy by myself. If I was in your shoes and my country had restrictions preventing me from watching something I would seek alternative options to streaming. In the year 2022 every show and movie from every streaming service should be available to everyone. I'm still waiting on a streaming service to have every show and movie available in one place. It is crazy to expect people to be able to afford to have 6 different streaming subscriptions and also have to pay per view some things that are not included. One day.... One day.

There is really only 2 ways for them to do these full length watch alongs... with or without headphones. I prefer with headphones because the video of their reaction video and audio would be together from the same source, and the tv episode video and audio we would provide, also together from the same source. Everyone speaking will always have the audio synced with their lips. The downside is wearing headphones for hours on end multiple days a week SUCKS. No matter how nice the headphones are. Without headphones is only an issue when the video we are watching is not the same as the one they are watching. I don't know why there are different runtimes for different people but that is the only issue here. Once I found the episode with the correct runtime it was very simple to sync. Within 15 seconds and just 2 or 3 double clicks of the play pause button it was synced perfect for the entire episode. At the end of the day there is so far 3 of us with sync issues out of 1000 plus patreon members so it is not worth the effort to change anything. I only left my comment about this up hoping it might help others know to look for the correct runtime of the episode if they were having the same issue. It took me hours to notice that was the issue. I hope you get it figured out as well.

I'm also having synch issues as well (Not your fault) And the recording from the audio from the show on your end is the only way I know how to keep up with my version... So whatever you do please don't eliminate the audio from your end. Thanks for the reaction by the way :)

i feel like this is always going to be an issue... i think because we get HBO Max through our cable subscription, we will always get ads and will never be exactly the same as the next person. something I am trying to work thought though

I‘m actually having the same sync issue here in Germany. Unfortunately the only streaming site of the show available here does not allow to use a VPN connection outside the EU. I tried all EU counties now, but they all show a version slightly shorter than the reaction (e.g. episode 2 is just 51:45min long with my copy). But I still love your reactions so much, I guess I will live with pausing my copy every few seconds until I maybe figure this out :-). Anyway, thank you so much for your content, Nikki and Steven - been watching you since the original GoT, it was such a great journey, I hope this will be as well :-).

I was left a bit sour after the end of GoT with the ending that we got. So I am coming into this series skeptical but this first episode left me more excited to get back into the world of Westoros. Came in unsure, leaving hopeful for sure!

My favorite little detail they threw in that I don't think many people really noticed was during the council scene after Queen Aemma's death where Daemon is listening in on them from within the walls. Otto says he'd be a second Maegor or worse, while Daemon is using the hidden passages Maegor had built in the Red Keep.

Daemon was responding to provocation from Hightower. And even though it seemed like Hightower was a more respectable person than Daemon at the start, he did try to pimp his own daughter out to Viserys, which was rather detestable. I've never read the books and know nothing of the source material, but I think people are misreading Daemon. I'm basing this assertion on his behavior at the funeral and the way he treated Mystaria (at the brothel). We've seen how horribly the evil characters in GoT treat brother workers, but Daemon is very nice to them. He seems like more of a Jaime than a Ramsay or Joffrey.

Yea the Hightowers are a big deal and of many houses under the Tyrells. They’re as rich as the Lannisters as well. Also mace Tyrell is married to one of the daughters and Jorah was married to one as a well and she was the reason for him selling slaves and part of the reason he becomes obsessed with Dany.

Not sure if you noticed about the Baratheons are related to Targaryens that’s how Robert got the throne. Also Hightower was in the scene when Ned fought Arthur Dayne. He was the lord commander for the mad king.

OMG!!! It's working now. I still don't understand but I turned on my VPN and connected to the UK and Bam. The whole episode is 3 min longer and syncs perfectly. I remembered comments from others about some animated shows having syncing problems in different countries. I'm in the US so that doesn't make sense but I can watch it now! This was not the introduction I was planning. I am so sorry. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my problem. I look forward to the entire season with you. Your GOT reactions were so good. It's all on Netflix and it's an amazing show. If you like shows like GOT and Vikings then the last kingdom is a must watch and for many people including myself it's even better than those shows.

Yeah, because of our setup we can’t eliminate the audio. We do add show audio in the YT reaction but try to eliminate here for less echo. I’ll have a mod jump in a give some helpful input.

You two are awesome. I have been watching your youtube versions for quiet a while now. I just now realized that you don't wear headphones or earbuds so I guess the tv shows audio is just coming through the mic you are using. I was thinking you selected record all audio inputs in the recording software you use and it was grabbing the web browser audio with the mic input. No one else seems to be having a sync issue so it must be just on my end..... I will keep trying. I don't understand what it could be.

Edit: Fixed the issue... Turned on VPN and the show runtime changed! Sync issue gone now. Wow. I just joined patreon and was very excited to watch this with you but after 15 min of trying to get it synced I gave up . There must be different cuts of this episode. I can get it synced perfect then 2 min later it is off by several seconds. Resync it and again a couple scenes later the sync is off. If we are watching our own copy of the show why do we have to sync the audio of the show from your video? Can you please only record your audio on future episodes? Thank you

Im pretty sute the hightowers are still around and are in oldtown in the time of GoT. I believe Margaerys mother was a hightower as well

i dont think you guys realized how messed up the kings brother is in this episode he made fun of the hand of the king's dead wife then choose his son and beat him in the tournament and then asked the hand of the king's daughter's for her favor and got it

Oh exactly right when he went to Viserys and made Daemon’s brothel scene seem FARRRRR WOORRSE than it actually was. Like he was laughing and having a good old time and celebrating doing shots and he’s actually in there like sad and moping around. I was waiting for Daemon to fight back but it seems like he’s just like actually sad that his brother won’t believe him.

Ps Call back! Arya Stark in s2 told Tywin that her favorite Targaryen is Visenya. Because she wielded DARK SISTER!! Visenya was one of Aegon the Conquerors sister!! 2) Hightowers were cut from Game of Thrones. I know everything was cut! Ancient house hopefully they teach us more about them!

NERD alert . I am helping friends all night 🤓 & want to extend it to y’all. Because GOT showrunners CUT a LOT out of George’s books. All the lore!! Ruined the story. They then cut George out after season four. HUGE one is Dragon Dreams. The basis of a song of ice and fire. You can imagine how unhappy George was. Targaryens have prophetic dreams. Dany’s dragon dreams led her to do everything. 2) George had never confirmed Aegon’s prophecy dream about the white walkers until right now!! George just used this episode to reveal it! HUGE! Has been theorized over for 15 years! The GOT showrunners were suppose to have Bran have a flashback. But nope, they wanted to not do magic elements. 3) George handpicked this new showrunner Ryan Cogman, who is like a surrogate son to George. And he’s a deep deep nerd who loves this world and he has nailed the details and brought back lore, And he is writing this as a prequel to George’s asoiaf books more so than the GOT show. Tricky balance! Anyways if you guys have any lore questions feel free to ask me — I’m always spoiler free. Because I don’t think you guys ever reacted or watched history’s and Lore from Game of Thrones😍

WOW the end when King Viserys told Rhaenyra the secret of The Song of Ice and Fire! I absolutely LOVED how he said "Promise me, promise me..." the EXACT words Lyanna Stark said to Ned as she died. OMG chills, all the feelings remembering the Tower of Joy scene and the amazing reveal. I wouldn't get too hung up on why Hightowers aren't mentioned in GoT, a lot of houses in ASOIAF aren't mentioned or shown in GoT. As far as I remember the Hightowers are still around in the GoT timeline

So far the only character I dislike is Otto Hightower. I liked him until he pimped out Alicent to the king and then I knew he was a dirtbag. Plus, he just looks super suss all the time.
