Unpopular opinion: Screw Alicent... Let me explain... Yes she is who she is because she was following her father's orders...But from the moment her dad told her to dress up and go see the King, what a day after his wife had died, she knew what was up. And if we're talking about who betrayed whom first, I know I would want to know if a chick my age and who I consider my bestie was gonna be my step mama. by her own design or not, keeping that information to herself was her playing the game and a betrayal to Rhaenyra...Besides that one convo with her mom about her lot in life and the rules of said lot, who do we see reminding Rhaenyra that customs and rules must be adhered to and why? Alicent. You're not gonna convince me that the daughter of Otto Hightower didn't know she was playing a part of the game. It could be that at some point she forgot and got close with Rhaenyra and that complicates how easy playing her part is for her, that I can believe. But her complete dutifulness the first 3 episodes give 'trained since birth' and I would imagine Otto would've foreseen a remarriage long before Queen Aemma died, even if he had to kill her himself after maybe her third failed attempt producing a male left Daemon as the next in line. Otto not stupid, he hates Daemon for seeing him for what he was, a schemer, and knew that if Viserys died and Daemon took the throne, he was outta there. And he would've explained all of this to Alicent, from the time she could comprehend up until the day Aemma died. bottom line she was never innocent of the fact that if she had a son she was effectively taking away what in her subconscious, she felt Rhaenyra never earned. if she wanted out of the game she could've fumbled those 'chats' with Viserys she was having behind Rhaenyra's back after Aemma died.

2024-05-20 16:14:54 +0000 UTCShe's always had that power, she was a noblewoman from birth, and then she became the Queen. If you don't know what power comes with that, then try to remember Cersei. And I think it was legitimate for her to wonder about who Rhaenyra was sleeping with in the sense that she had been defending her the entire time, and it could come back on her to look weak, naive and childish if it were discovered that Rhaenyra was lying - which she was.

2022-11-25 19:32:32 +0000 UTC1- i’m really surprised that Rhaenyra actually had kids with someone else. Like I thought their “doing our duty “included having children. I just think that was a really bad idea 😬. 2- Larys strong? I think the clubfooted man- is definitely the worst villain we’ve had in the series yet, other than the crab feeder. He just killed his father and brother and the queen didn’t even ask him to.

2022-09-27 14:25:11 +0000 UTCYup… so you could say he lost two hands in this episode. His own and Lyonel Strong 😬

2022-09-27 03:36:21 +0000 UTCIs the window from the Red Keep where Aegon was beating off the exact same one Tommen Baratheon jumped off from in GOT? Didn’t know many kids were thrown outta that window before. Gives a new meaning to “King’s Landing” lol

2022-09-27 01:33:42 +0000 UTCAlicent literally used her dad sadness over her mothers death to marry him then got an attitude with her about her having sex with Cole. After father orchestrated everything that he claims endangers the realm. Like she has some nerve.

2022-09-26 22:56:07 +0000 UTCAlicent whole goal is to get her kid on the throne. Her father and uncle set up the whole scheme to get Rhaenyra named heir and then question a woman being heir so they can get their blood on the throne.

2022-09-26 22:44:54 +0000 UTCOne scene they cut out this episode they literally filmed daemon consoling his daughters. So it was weird that they cut that out it shows he cares. Targaryens are not immune to fire. It was a one time thing for Daenerys.

2022-09-26 22:39:42 +0000 UTCAlicent has been ridiculous the whole worried about who Rhaenyra was sleeping with was ridiculous on her part after what she did. Also I did not like them giving her all that power this episode out the blue.

2022-09-26 22:37:20 +0000 UTCYea and even she is not immune it was just the magic that created the dragons. Then they changed it in the later seasons for some reason.

2022-09-26 22:35:06 +0000 UTCThanks for the speedy reaction, you guys never disappoint with getting these bitches out! And just to respond to something you said in the video Nikki, I doubt you'll be judged for your opinion of Alicent most people have been voicing similar concerns, and most of the key characters and parties involved are blacks (moniker for the supporters of Rhaenyra). I get the sense that most people tend to lean towards Rhaenyra's side because Viserys, the King, chose her as his heir, and so mutiny is going to disturb the peace and result in unnecessary drama. The fear surrounding Rhaenyra's succession resulting in war may ultimately be a self-fulfilling prophecy because they keep causing trouble. Your feelings are valid. I also like how Steven is playing devil's advocate, it's a fair balance.

2022-09-26 20:25:45 +0000 UTCAlso, I was going to tell Nikki that the actor who plays Aegon is Ty Tennant, son of David Tennant.

2022-09-26 16:51:45 +0000 UTCthis is 8 generations before denarys if they didn't do time jumps the show would be 20 seasons long

2022-09-26 16:39:59 +0000 UTCProbably so. But I don’t get why Rhaenyra having bastard kids is an affront to Alicent. Rhaenyra is the named heir. She and Laenor still have plenty of time to figure out how to make a legitimate child, but then again I’m probably thinking about this with a modern mindset. 🤷🏻♀️

2022-09-26 16:34:29 +0000 UTCWith the way Rhaenyra is popping out the bastards, I'm getting the feeling there will be voluntary and involuntary unaliving of people in the near future. But, yeah, for a character that at first seemed very interesting, Ser Criston is a big disappointment.

2022-09-26 16:23:07 +0000 UTCTeam BLACK all the way! I can’t stand Alicent. She’s a little hypocrite. Rhaenyra is trying to make peace and all Alicent wants to do is further Aegon as heir. Viserys named Rhaenyra as heir and that should have been the last word. And I wish Ser Criston has unalived himself last episode. He’s being a whiny little bitch because he’s still butthurt that Rhaenyra shot him down. Get over it, my dude.

2022-09-26 16:13:32 +0000 UTCAfter this last episode, I'm really disappointed with both of them. But, yeah, Alicent was a total dick at the beginning.

2022-09-26 16:10:19 +0000 UTCWe only deal with show canons, so nothing should be brought in from book knowledge or outside sources like what George says, etc. There's no dragon dream in the show for Dany so that doesn't apply. And her hair wasn't burnt so you're bringing up random book stuff that we're not supposed to discuss. And also, the show canon for house of the dragon is NOT "actual canon" in terms of the book. If you want to talk about what George said, he explicitly said there's book canon and shows canon (he specified all the shows he wants to be one single canon), which is why already through six episodes there's tons of differences between this show and the source material. Which is fine. And it's also why although the second fire scene in GOT, although perhaps "a complete invention by the show runners" means that it's still in the same canon.

2022-09-26 13:00:59 +0000 UTCYou're meant to pick sides so no one is going to hate you for your opinion. I'm personally Team Black and think that Alicent was a bitch this entire episode.

2022-09-26 10:41:00 +0000 UTCDragonstone is the official residence of the Targaryen heirs, so it makes sense Rhaenyra would live there. Remember in E2 Rhaenyra said to Daemon "you're living in my castle". The scheming character is LARYS Strong, not Lyonel. His name is like a combo of Littlefinger & Varys which is perfect for such a schemer! Not sure if you caught it but Larys arranged for the murders of his own father Lyonel and brother Harwin! So now Larys is the head of House Strong & Lord of Harrenhal. He told Alicent to write to her father so I assume Otto will return as Hand. Loved Larys's speech at the end about how loving our children (or love for anyone) is a weakness, an obstacle that distracts you from your goals. Great callback to the Cersei convos in Game of Thrones about the same thing. This explains why Larys had no problem getting rid of his own family, if the Rhaenyra/Harwin scandal truly got out, Larys would've lost everything as his family would've been exiled or worse. His cane has the little beetle or cicada sigil, that's what the convicts he freed had pinned to their cloaks. The convo between Laena & Daemon seemed to suggest that she knew he'd always loved someone else (Rhaenyra) but had made her peace with it. IMO the fact that we can understand and even empathize with both Alicent and Rhaenyra's positions is a sign of good storytelling. Rhaenyra did try to offer a peace in this episode by marrying the kids to each other, but Alicent rejected it. Not good! The training scene in the courtyard did a good job of showing us that all the boys are innocent at this point. They have grown up together, fighting and teasing each other like all kids do. Aegon is just a goofy horny teenager who doesn't take any of this seriously. But in the training yard we have Cole & Harwin giving them weapons & teaching them to antagonize & fight each other. Perfect way to demonstrate that grudges are taught - the adults in their lives are infecting these kids with their own fears & hatreds.

2022-09-26 10:40:10 +0000 UTCAll Dragonlords can die by fire: I might send this in for your podcast because I spend a lot of time, answering questions. Dany’s pyre burning Khal Drogo, she had a dragon Dream to walk into the fire with her dragon eggs. She tied up that witch to pyre. By accidental blood magic, Dany had a one-time magical event where she survived fire. Though her hair was burnt. Some skin was affected. Blood Magic and they hatched. The second one in the show, was complete invention by the Showrunners of Game of Thrones, George is very against it because it ruins Dany’s purpose. And character meaning. But they chose not to adapt his book material in large droves. So now a lot of the show watchers don’t realize that it was invention, but anything dealing with the actual Canon, like house of the dragon, will be canon on lore. Not fan fiction like Thrones.

2022-09-26 10:15:03 +0000 UTCI’m not Team Green! TEAM BLACK FOREVER! 🖤 👸🏼So that’s a no for me on Alicent, and her greens🤢And showrunners WANT us to pick Greens vs Blacks. So tell Nik, don’t worry, they want us to!

2022-09-26 10:00:36 +0000 UTCI should point out that Targaryens are not immune to fire. That was a unique trait for Daenerys only because she used blood magic to birth her dragons. Also, Daemon only has two daughters, Baela and Rhaena.

2022-09-26 09:51:13 +0000 UTCVhagar is a she🔥 Also, the dragon that roared at Armond in the dragonpit is most likely Drogon’s mother, Dreamfyre.

2022-09-26 09:12:28 +0000 UTCI totally forgot that you guys said you didn’t look at any trailers or promotional material for the show. The show was advertised as having two versions of the main characters and they were shown in all the trailers so most of us knew this big time jump was happening this season. I can see it being jarring for people who didn’t know.
