The Patreon Sales Tax post

As you may or may not be aware, Patreon will be adding sales tax to more pledges from July 1st, depending on patreon's location. This doesn't mean that everyone will be paying more than they already are from that date (for example, UK patrons already pay VAT on here as it is! You lucky, lucky people) but by law they're required to do it in more places now such as Australia, Japan, New Zealand and the majority of US states (e.g. sales tax in the US ranges between 4% and 11%, depending on state).
Patreon will be sending out an e-mail to everyone on June 1st regarding this, but they've given us creators a heads up to not only get these posts out first and actually tell folks before they inevitably come barging in, but also to add more detail on our tiers and categorise them efficiently. Not everything in every tier is taxable after all -- getting access to a Discord server or getting your name in credits is exempt from tax, as is the part of a pledge that's simply for general support. I've gone through my tiers and categorised the benefits appropriately, and this should minimise the added costs for those who are affected.
Of course, this is all a bit of a pain in the arse and not exactly well timed. If these changes mean that you have to reduce or cancel your pledge, that is of course understandable. If anyone has any further questions on here I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability, but I hope this has helped clear things and is better than just getting a fart of an e-mail out the blue on the 1st of the month.
