Rewrites... sorry.

So I was watching some TNG (Star Trek), and something Picard said spawned an idea in my head. After hours of pacing around my apartment, bouncing ideas off of friends, and judging if this will be worth it, I have decided to rework pretty much my entire lore.

Trust me, it will be worth it... I think.

Everything you have read so far, fortunately, can stay within the world. Nothing is breaking here at all. BUT, not I have to get to work to redo my mythology from the ground up.

This story has been burning in my head for years now and I just want to make it perfect. I am still managing to write at least a page a day, but it is the rewriting that is killing me.

So what I leave you with here is a question. How much do you want to see before the finished product? I have kept everything spoiler-free so far, and I by no means will give away the story, but do you want to see more of what is going on? Let me know what (SPOILER FREE) aspects of the story you want to see next.

Let me know and I will, to quote Picard, "Make it so."

dude i'm here for the process. whatever you gotta do, i'm CHILL with seeing it unfold. as much of it as you wanna show us!

Daniel we will greedily take whatever you give us, but I agree with several points made above. only give us what you are sure wont change. i know that you are the king of maps, a great map would be a good teaser. It will give us something to mull over make wild fantasies about. I would think this might be a good drop once your book is ready for Beta reads or first round editing, so landmarks are solid.

Hey, as long as you feel like what you're redoing will genuinely make the story better it's all good with me. As for what to see next, maybe some "day in the life" of various random citizens around the world. That could show us stuff like how they feel about and how they are affected by living under the rule of an actual god.

TLDR: Careful about discussing narrative decisions. Have theme and setting discussions with your Patrons or on the Discord, but no specifics. You might have to change your mind later. Long Version: Ok, so. I’m going to give what might be a controversial take. Personally, I think you should be careful about how much you share during the formative stages. This book is your baby, and as much as we are desperate to read it, you are the one who needs to write it. Giving us too much about it might lock you into initial creative choices that you might find don’t work for you as you reach completion. You need to maintain complete creative control of your own work. You need to be able to change anything you need to change as your story requires, and not need to save certain things that your community likes just because we like it. As much as we love Brando Sando, I don’t think he’d be comfortable sharing as much of his work before realise if he didn’t already have his manuscript in hand. You have to maintain as much creative freedom as you can. As far as your community is concerned, we’ll be just as understanding and supportive if you take your time. As long as you can spare little pieces and updates about how it’s going for you, we’ll be patient. That said, we all are gonna want to know your process, how you made something like this (IMO the two small pieces you’ve given us thus far are some of the most compelling narrative elements I’ve come across in a very long time). So my suggestion is you maybe (and as long as it doesn’t cripple your creative process) document and maybe keep some video journals about decisions you make and perhaps after you finish, you can share a sort of first hand writers guide to creative decision making. Actually having a that kind of content would be, as far as I know, utterly unique. Anyway, we’re all really excited for your finished product and you can guarantee that we’ll be ordering copies the second it’s published, but you’re the one whose got to make it happen Daniel, and the last thing we, your community, want to do is hamper you in any way. So my advice is be cautious of giving to much away too soon. You might need to change your mind later on. As Carlos said, perhaps your best strategy might be to have theme discussions with your Patrons or on the Discord discussing some ideas in this kinda forum, but keep specifics under wraps for now.

Characterization always matters more to me in a story than anything else.

like most people, i’d love to just know more about groups within the world! maybe whatever worldbuilding you feel comfortable sharing? really it’s whatever you want imo, but i’d love any and all new info

I liked hearing about the magic system, so things like creatures, legends, geography and religions would be a great way of getting to know your world without getting into spoilers 😊

Whatever you feel comfortable sharing with us, I for sure would love to read about it! Have fun and good luck with your re-writes.

Piggybacking on some of the other comments, I would love to know more about any unique factions, creatures, gods, faiths...anything like that.

I am very interested to see how your worldbuilding process works so, discussions about it would be welcomed on my behalf. I know working out the details of my own world took nigh on sixteen years, and admittedly, observing the machinations of someone more plugged in to the fantasy sphere and zeitgeist would be fascinating. I've actually thought a good deal about what you've shared already. Also, I've never been big into hard magic systems...so, a window into how such a construct is built would be, I'd nothing else, different...and I always say "fun begins when you step out of your comfort zone" or, similarly, into someone else's.
