KNIFE OF DREAMS SUMMARY
Added 2025-08-26 13:00:06 +0000 UTCEditing Kayla LIFE UPDATE: I OFFICIALLY SIGNED WITH A LITERARY AGENCY!
UPDATE: I've just been made aware of the strange freeze frame at 1:01:21! We'll take a look at the raw file. It seems to be a strange exporting issue we'll be able to fix.

I definitely reject the idea that this book isn't part of the slog. It definitely is. It's resolving all the terrible plotlines from the slog. Perrin, Mat, Elayne, and Egwene's boring plots (and creepy and gross for Mat's romance with Tuon). It's just that they're resolved relatively ok and actually brought to an ending instead of carried on indefinitely. So it feels better than it is. Also Rand is still very absent like most of the slog as well.

2025-11-05 21:24:01 +0000 UTCcurrently half way through this book. Got chills when LAN decided to go to the Blight. Then when Nynaeve confronted the gem salesman and asked if her husband must ride alone, I teared up. I am so thankful for these reviews. You are able to put everything in perspective which is of tremendous help. Also helps dealing with the SLOG, knowing what's to come encourages me to continue.

2025-09-08 21:02:45 +0000 UTCWhen Elayne gets ambushed by the black ajah: Vandene kills the Darkfriend (who is a trusted person in Elaynes party) that killed Adeleas and Ispan two books ago. Perrin gets more help from Two rivers where Tam has trained an whole army of archers via gateways. Not just from the Two Rivers but ppl from all over (refugees) has joined his army now. And yeah...wtf Perrin...did you not think Tam would find out? His defeat of the Shaido is so complete that aside from Masemas rabble there is not much casualties. None, not a one, of Perrins army dies I think. The Seanchan leader remarks upon this, which is saying something. I love the conclusion of this arc; Perrins handling of the Seanchan, the planning, the battle. I always thought of Deathgates as regular gateways slicing through the Trollocs and transporting big groups of them. Remember that shadowspawn can't enter a gateway without unaliving, so they would be dead ether way. I have a theory about the ogier. What if they are sensitive or allergic to the one power? Kind of like pollen...some are more sensitive and some are less so. But exposure slowly poisons them, and their bodies are telling them to get to safety, hence the "longing" for a stedding where there are no saidin or saidar in the "air". Or in the actual air since some ter'angreal works without a channeler or channeling. Them being from another world makes so much sense then! I like it. It's canon in my head until proven otherwise. When Nynieve put Lan in the borderlands she had promised to do just that. But instead of putting him close to Tarwin's Gap where he want's to go face the Trolloc hoard (apparently the only place where they can go into humans lands at this time?) she put him on the other side of the world, or their continent I guess, in Arafel (?) right by the Aryth ocean. Editing Kayla: Could you edit in a map here to show what distances we are talking about? Where she drops him of and where Fal Dara and the gap is? After Mat & co leaves the inn, the "hell", they get ambushed from two sides right? Or am I remembering wrong village? Selucia and Thom deals with one side and Mat the other, which makes Tuon goes kind of "Oh...". I'm also not a fan of the Tuon-Mat and where it takes us later on. Is it worth mentioning Setalla Anan and her story and impact on the group? I feel like she is one the few ppl Mat can just be Mat with. If there is time I think you should. I think that is all my thoughts for now. Great storytelling and great editing! Keep up the good work! And congratulations Kayla! Good job!

2025-08-27 23:06:09 +0000 UTCNynaeve going ahead of Lan to make sure he doesn't march to Tarmon Gai'don alone is probably the most beautiful thing in this story, and it solidified her as my favorite character in the whole WoT. I'm getting teary just thinking about it

2025-08-27 12:22:43 +0000 UTCThe Amaram Freudian slip at 35:40 when talking about Aram is so perfect, gave me a good chuckle.

2025-08-26 23:49:43 +0000 UTCKayla!!!! Huge congrats! I knew you’d find success, your writing and story was top notch! Called it from day one 😁😁😁😁 Also this video series is fantastic, I’ve officially started my reading journey for these books because of the passion and work put in. Huge love for always bringing everything you’ve got to the work you do Daniel. If I like these books even half as much as you clearly do then I’m in for an amazing time! Also as always thanks for bringing us audience along for the reading ride :)

2025-08-26 22:41:45 +0000 UTCCongratulations Kayla! I could be wrong, but I think it was Rands left hand that was burned off. I remember him thinking he still had his sword hand, but most of the forms needed two on the hilt. The seal team 6 edit is my favorite so far, and that’s really saying something And thanks for explaining that it was Selucia Thom was talking about outside the “hell”. I’d always assumed that Tuon had killed all those men by accidentally channeling. This makes more sense.

2025-08-26 21:58:53 +0000 UTCCongratulations Kayla!! Knife of Dreams was always one of my favourites, just in terms of characters and interactions, loved it. Also brought a lot to a close and you could feel him gearing up for Tarmon Gai’don. Galad fighting Valda was a great scene and a fantastic look into his character. The Children were such an interesting look at how evil doesn’t always have to be associated with the Dark One. Love your family tree! I’ve always wondered why Galad had the Damodred name and not the Mantear, seeing as Gawyn is a Trakand. He would have been assumed to be the First Prince of the Sword for his future sister, just like Gawyn. Was it because Morgase was Queen when she married Taringail? But Tirgaine was always going to be Queen, as there isn’t a Succession when the daughter-heir is present. Elayne was an exception because Rhavin messed up so much in Andor. Elaida is indeed an idiot, can’t wait for you to go into her in the next book summary! Her blind belief in herself was so painful to read and beautifully done by Jordan. I loved the scene of Jahar exposing Halima. Joline was such a frustrating character, but Mat stepping in was hilarious. Jordan was so good at having different types of people with different philosophies. They didn’t always resonate with anyone, but that’s a reflection of the real world and he did it better than any other author I’ve read. Technically it was “you’re my husband, you’re my husband, you’re my bloody husband” :p Tuon isn’t the Empress yet, not until she declares herself, which isn’t until after a mourning period 😊 That letter that Berelain’s theifcatchers stole from Masema, did we ever find out exactly what he was doing with the Seanchan? The Suroth really should have put his name on the letter, she left it very open ended. Perrin’s singlemindedness about Faile was frustrating, but Jordan was always good at having characters not be 100% loveable all the time, his characters made mistakes and acted out, and I love that for the overall world. The Battle of Malden was so well executed by Perrin and his allies. It was Aram who betrayed Perrin, but it was indeed very Amaram coded :p The mera’din helping Faile’s name was Rolan 😊 The Perrin-Rand fight was faked with the goal of Perrin getting Masema back to Rand. Agreed the Succession plotline was an absolute drag, but with a good ending. I love Brigitte’s frustration that the whole time Elayne was kidnapped she wasn’t afraid once. Brother Book fighting for the world! The Battle at Algorin’s manor was so so good! But DAMN the best bit was Nyneave in the Borderlands afterwards. I reread that scene whenever I read this book, chills every time and sometimes tears. “My husband rides for Tarwin’s Gap, will he ride alone?” Definitely important to note that the box also contained the Domination Band, the male a’dam, that Egeanin was supposed to have disposed of.

2025-08-26 21:18:16 +0000 UTCI also thought the fight was a ruse, because Perrin was sent to deal with Masema, and check out what was behind the letter from Queen Alliandre?

2025-08-26 21:17:51 +0000 UTCWhen Lan goes off to Shayol Ghul alone, I started getting chilled. RJ surely wouldn't kill of Lan would he? And Nynaeve, appealing to all remaining Malkieri "Does the Golden Crane ride alone?' I was teary eyed. I can't wait to reread this book. Story is definitely building to the last battle. The pace seems to be picking up now.

2025-08-26 20:49:04 +0000 UTCAram getting killed feels to me like the first of MANY threads that got trimmed up ahead of the Last Battle. Like Jordan was realizing that he let so many things go on for too long that had NOTHING to really do with the ending, and it was time to sever that one.

2025-08-26 20:22:13 +0000 UTCGoose bumps is correct. I got it watching this and you barely touched on the details. "My husband rides from World's End toward Tarwin's Gap, toward Tarmon Gai'don. Will he ride alone?" GOATED

2025-08-26 19:11:43 +0000 UTCAm I wrong that Perrin and Rand fighting was a ruse the two of them came up with to do ... something? I can't remember the details. Congrats Kayla! Great video!
