This is a juxtaposition with Sae-byeok, which means dawn in Korean from S1 who also defected to South Korea from North Korea. Saebyeok joined the game as a player to live, while No-eul joined as a soldier to kill - both doing so for their family

We see that she is from North Korea and was separated with her daughter, with no mention of her husband thus far. They revealed that she was in the military, having shot her superior before defecting to the South so in a sense it wasn't too out-of-the-blue for the audience that she was recruited as a soldier and as we know the Triangle soldiers are armed with guns. We also found out from the recruiter that they have to work for years before they're given a gun in the game, so we can assume here that she has definitely been working in the game to earn her the rank.
