Color scheme struggle victory!

This time I got stuck with a color scheme! There were already several established color pallets for Guts: in the forest fire orange one; black with red contour for 'further away from the fire' shots and later 'dog demon guts look', pale ashed-skin for closeups. Then I came up with variations for the first few closeups in the starry sky (even the whole 3D-2D face for moth-eyes pov 'you kinda hot from up close' scene). BUT! I got completely frustrated with any of those or variations for this GoPro fall shot. And I couldn't use moth bioluminescence as a highlights source because she is too far from him now. And for consistency I had to continue ignoring the moon light and also, I heavily disliked any blue-ish, yellow-ish, pink-ish highlights I tried. I craved something fresh to go on...

And then in the whites of the manga panel I was referencing I saw the CLOUDS! Obviously, you can have clouds in the night but those clouds being pinned to the horizon line and vaguely shaping out of the whites made me imagine an early dawn breaking that could only be seen from the height at which our heroes are flying. I remembered that myself I saw such a dawn line when flying on an airplane! That gave me an idea of a light source and a new color scheme. At first, I used it to show colors in his clothes similar to the 97 series but then quickly opted for the completely blood-soaked look. At this point in the battle, he shouldn't even have much elf goo traces left. Or does it turn back to human blood after a while?..
