I live in Patriots territory with a family full of Pats fans but I'm a life long die hard bears fan because of the 85 Bears and Sweetness. the 1986 defense was even better but McMahon got hurt so the offense sputtered and they lost in the first round of the playoffs.

2023-08-05 08:03:34 +0000 UTCI was in 7th grade during the Bears' magical 85 season. I've been a bears fan since age 4. So I'm no stranger to watching terrible, horrible, awful Bears teams. But for one magical season, they did the damn thing. The year prior, the Bears were shutout by the Niners in the NFC Championship game. I figured it took me 10 years to see them have some success, so I'd have to wait 10 more years. Boy was I wrong. The weirdest part of the 85 Bears season was that for many fans, the Super Bowl party began after week 3, when Jim McMahon came off the bench loaded on painkillers and threw 3 TD's for a comeback win against the Vikings. It was as if we fans knew all the way back then... like a mandate from heaven. Sure the Miami game was frustrating, but for some odd reason, the title felt inevitable. I've never felt that way about any team before or since... not even during the Chicago Bulls' 6 titles.
