Pittsburgh, The City of Bridges, meaning the most in the whole World, has a major bridge named The Roberto Clemente Bridge.

I don't worry about the press. The people are different. Takes them a while to warm up to something new, but no different than most.

Tracy Barnes

I can't remember if it's home plate or a field base that is in the business building next to the library on campus. They also have a brick pathway that marks the running path. There is also a plaque relating to Forbes Field. There is so much to see at the Cathedral of Learning, especially on the first 2 floors, along with the architecture. Love my alma mater.

Tracy Barnes

Thank you. There were several to choose from, but I wanted people to see him beyond the numbers. Unfortunately, I was on 2 when he passed away, but I have seen how the City has grown to embrace him. I don't stock people. But love the museum.

Tracy Barnes

Thanks Jessica, you did sum it rather nicely. There are still a lot of writers who don't think his number should be retired. There is a very nice museum here. And I'm glad the City has come around and evolved into embracing a wonderful human being.

Tracy Barnes

the Pittsburgh sports press is still barely better by the way lmao some of the dumbest humanity out there

the part where you said โ€œsome view,โ€ those people are on top of the Cathedral of Learning. an architectural masterpiece and the pride of the University of Pittsburgh. they still have the home plate of Forbes Field in the floor where it stood. itโ€™s an educational building now. itโ€™s trippy to see footage of this area back then. i lived there for a few years

My all time favorite MLB player is Andrew McCutchen. Always said he wanted to retire as a Pirate. Doesnโ€™t hurt that we share a birthday. Lol

Tracy Barnes

Canโ€™t believe I missed you guys posting this. Work has been hectic. Love your reactions, so heartfelt. Robertsโ€™s museum is here, plus the bridge that is named after him right next to the stadium. Itโ€™s amazing how the City has now embraced him. Definitely looking forward to when you guys come to visit. Iโ€™ll take you guys to the Forbes Field marker. There is still resistance in MLB to retire his number across the league.

Tracy Barnes

My favorite player of all time is another Puerto Rican player, Edgar Martinez.

Ryan Hessen

Fun fact, it is widely believed that Yogi Bear was names after Yogi Berra.

I absolutely love that Tracy chose an American experience episode. All their documentaries are fucking phenomenal.

Tracy will share better details, Iโ€™m sure, but MLB holds Roberto ClementeDay annually in September and all the players across the league wear number 21 in their games in his honor. I believe itโ€™s one of only three days held across the league for past players. (The other two being Jackie Robinson and Lou Gehrig who you should learn about if you havenโ€™t already!) Every year each team also nominates a player for the Clemente Award which is given to the player who best showcases philanthropic efforts. (Similar to the Walter Payton Man of the Year award in the NFL, if you are familiar with that). Number 21 is obviously retired by the Pirates but many feel like it should be retired league-wide like Jackieโ€™s because of what he represented for Latino players.

Jessica

Yeah I worked that one out ๐Ÿ˜€

Damon Richmond

Bucs are short for Buccaneers. Another name for Pirates.
