My take on Coach telling Smash, that he was helping him because he just needed something good to happen -- was after watching the Dillon team highlights at the party and realizing that there wasn't any Smash footage -- the look on his face --reminded him that Smash is a deserving, but hard-luck kid with potential -- who might need that extra push / help. Yes -- good things have been happening with Coach, but no so much lately with Smash.

There was a scene in the initial run of the show that Netflix has removed due to its violent nature: Landry going mental after Tyra broke up with him, and murdering Santiago, Chris, Street, and the meth dealer with a pipe in the chicken store parking lot then and burying the bodies in Rigginsβ backyard.
