If you remember the Heaven's arc, Wing did mention that basically being subjected to a great amount of nen can awaken your own nen abilities, but if done incorrectly it could even kill you, as a matter of fact it was mentioned that the 3 villains from that arc got their disabilities from brute forcing their way past nen and each losing some part of their body but gaining nen that way.

2024-03-20 15:14:36 +0000 UTCthe armadillo was gon's first kill in the series ever. i remember reading some ppl wanted togashi to make it a bigger deal. but one can argue the stakes are too high to be busy contemplating killing that ant, or maybe gon finally stopped seeing them as redeemable and more like pure animals vs something with humanity. we'll never know!

2024-03-20 14:26:39 +0000 UTCthe ant had his nen pores opened the same way that gon and killua did - forcing the Aura nodes to open via an influx of aura. wing did it very gently so gon and killua werent hurt vs the bunny taking full on attacks. but yeah the bunny would have had had their pores open whether the damage was deadly or not (so idk if it's related to him not succumbing to the pain)
