The moment it all clicked for me is when they do the side-by-side "romantic advice" conversations. They are honestly both infinitely frustrating for the first half of the movie (in a "makes the movie compelling and interesting" sort of way) but when Maki starts to voice "What she's really saying" between the lines + Kaguya openly admiting to Kashiwagi that "she just can't articulate properly" around him... I realized how fucking realistic it was. People have a hard time admitting exactly what they are feeling all of the time. Often they don't express themselves very clearly and it gets deeply misunderstood. We see both sides of this in the movie. Kaguya keeps confusing him because she won't just outright tell him that she wants him to take initiative in the relationship. Miyuki keeps trying to read 7 layers deep because that's been their relationship since the beginning and it doesn't occur to him that she might actually just trying to get him to do the obvious thing with no strings attached.

2024-09-06 12:23:09 +0000 UTCI don't remember what channel I was reacting to when I saw the comment, but someone else put it perfectly imho. To summarize to the best of my ability: Basically that "Wakatta" can carry very different meanings based on the tone and context you say it with. In this case, the translation using "Fine" is actually somewhat appropriate. Because the word fine can have lots of different meaning... it's more about the context you use it in and the tone that you say it in. In this context, after everything was said and done, we know his feelings for her are very strong. If you listen closely the tone is very indicative of very deep running emotions underneath. We also know, after all of the storytelling around "it doesn't have to be perfect" in this movie that him using a word like that with such a tone would be very appropriate for his true personality and also matches with this "imperfection" that Kaguya expressed so clearly to him that she would accept. In that manner it's kind of the perfect end-note for this little arc and shows how despite their flaws they really are ideal for each other. But yeah, the first time I saw it to I also thought it was a rather odd choice.

2024-09-06 12:16:50 +0000 UTCI am going to love it if we get more. I hope after he gets done with Oshi no Ko, Akasaka returns to Shuichen to do a spin off. (manga readers know what I'm getting at)

2024-03-29 10:04:28 +0000 UTChahah i get that, like i mentioned i think the movie wants you to think that with how drastic the change was right after you finally think "omg they can finally be together". i think i just know a lot of ppl like kaguya (without the rich elite part) so i could see where things were headed super early on when it came to kaguya. the miyuki backstory at the end def surprised me though

2024-03-27 22:24:20 +0000 UTCI get why it came across that way BUT it's all about balance, yeah that can be a part of the personality but it shouldn't be the main side you put across (especially since we've seen how different kaguya was for 3 seasons) so I know I made it sound worse than probably intended to but end of the day it was more since I wanted the Kaguya we know back😂😅 - Prez

2024-03-27 22:02:17 +0000 UTCit was a bit sad seeing prez say exactly the things kaguya feared when being her actual self lmao as if ice kaguya was something for her to fix instead of embrace. i get that the movie sort of steers you in that direction until it explains itself lol but doesnt make it less sad :p

2024-03-27 14:38:40 +0000 UTCThis OVA scares us and we don't even know why😂

2024-03-27 11:25:57 +0000 UTCWhen shirogane says “fine” he actually says “wakatta” which is more like “yes, I understand” or “yes, I’ll do that”. Translating it as fine is it a bit of an odd choice imo

2024-03-26 23:25:43 +0000 UTCI completely get you bro... If there's one thing in current society I would actually go as far as to say I hate, is the standards people are held up to... I'm generalizing here because not only us men suffer from this, and I like to let everyone know I do consider more points of view than just mine, but speaking ONLY from my own experience, and relating A LOT to that "I gave up entirely for a while at least" thing you said... Believe me when I say I get you bro... That is what I find so beautifully endearing about the plot of this arc. I mean, the way Akasaka emphasizes the irony of growth... The fact of the matter is that, while we struggle becoming something society deems worthy at all, we're also made to fear being rejected if unsuccessful at said task... But somehow, humans sooner or later learn to show empathy and compassion to others cuz we all eventually realize that's what can free others from said fears and unrealistic expectations... Crucially though, whenever said empathy and compassion comes our way, were unable to let ourselves be praised and loved... So just as that cathartic, yet amazingly uneventful conversation in the playground between two prideful/coward lovers... The realization of the simplest of notions, hits Kaguya, and us for what it's worth, LIKE A TRAIN... Through her inner speech, it is made crystal clear that, properly loving herself and letting others love her, is just the flip side of the same coin that is learning to treat, and love others... And it doesn't come as a gift from the heavens, or as a miracle... It is Nurtured, and Fed into maturity, even if motivated by wrong reasons (like fear of rejection)... It involves hard disciplined effort, and it rarely pays off instantly, cuz it is most of the time only achieved through changing one's perspective (rather than one's physical situation)... It is challenging, and most of the time is unspectacular, cuz we live in established systems that facilitate situations where proper love is antagonized and superficial ideals are worshiped, yet again, the most beautiful of things often happen in the flare-less dark filled playgrounds, or infront of unromantic 7elevens... Therein lays the irony of it all... None of us are born Knowing how to love (others, OR ourselves), and while we're all incentivized to presume possessing the knowledge of how to do so (wear masks), and I remember my therapist once telling me this, the cruel part of it all, is that we're all ACTUALLY learning it on the go, and no one should be hold accountable for their ignorance (that's different from being held accountable for their malice, but I digress)... We all should help each other overcome it, cuz in the end, the benefits of knowing how to love properly (others AND ourselves) can, AND will be ripped by all of us alike. I'm glad you're no longer holding yourself up to unrealistic standards bro... I just hope you're also aware of your self worth, and you're letting a lot of love into your life... I know you're good freaking enough! So stay cool fella! 😊

2024-03-26 20:06:56 +0000 UTCthen you get his backstory and it's like OMFG it all makes sense. these two ppl who are like polar opposites are both trying to mold themselves into the person they think the other will like - to the point of identity crisis. then it's so sad it makes my heart hurt

2024-03-26 18:55:29 +0000 UTCdamn i forgot how much shirogane got on my nerves for the first 3/4ths of this movie 😭 i felt like kaguya was being so clear for most of the interactions and and it hurt to see her think "i have to hide this part of myself to be loved". this ice kaguya isnt something to be discarded. she wants to know that ever part of her is cherished and loved. ugh it's so cute it makes my heart hurt 😭

2024-03-26 18:02:16 +0000 UTCI won't lie, Shirogane's backstory destroyed me when I first watched it, it hit terribly hard. Growing up I felt like I had to be perfect to be worth anything, I felt that if I wasn't perfect no one would ever care. The only difference is that I eventually became overwhelmed and gave up trying entirely, at least for a while.

2024-03-26 13:47:28 +0000 UTCLol not at all, they already confirm that a new season will be made. There is a lot to do. There is 28 tomes to adapt and so far we have 15/16 done.

2024-03-26 03:59:31 +0000 UTCIt's been a blast watching you both react to this! Glad you enjoyed it so much, agreed that it is peak. What makes it for me is the willingness of the series to not shy away from the very real struggles of romance when it comes to physical/emotional intimacy and blend it well with the comedy. It's so easy to become invested in these characters when they're going through things that you've likely gone through. Other anime romcoms have couples-to-be who don't seem to even understand what kissing is, let alone SE-. Patiently waiting for S4 to see our boy Ishigami get the romance he deserves!

2024-03-26 03:30:19 +0000 UTCMan, I started the manga like immediately after the movie which was like 4 weeks ago (and finished it within a day) because I wasn't aware of the movie. I really hope they adapt the rest of the manga, but I have a feeling that they will leave it where it is because I can see them being satisfied with where the movie ends.

2024-03-26 03:29:31 +0000 UTCThe reason I hold this anime so close to my heart, is that as an adaptation of the manga, it is superb... I see adaptations, over and over, screw so many things from their source material, that it genuinely feels like animes in general are just glorified adds for their source mangas... I know there's lots of anime that invest in pretty/awesome animation, and many are loyal to their source 100%... Yet I'm still holding to see an anime that shows such love and care to its characters, plot, and ideals as Kaguya does... I mean, they keep getting Masayuki Suzuki for the intros, they bring back artists from past endings for new ones, the OST has so much going on musically (I'm a musician, so to know all this was made just by ONE PERSON, is mind blowing), Kei Haneoka just bat it out of the park! The voice actors genuinely pour themselves into the characters, and the animators and production staff keep on gifting the viewers with glimpses into what the manga is (if you've read the manga, you know what I'm talking about, intros and endings are SOOOOO much more than just spoiler filled references to the manga, they're freaking FULL celebrations of Akasaka's work!). I'm sure you all know about an anime that may be a better adaptation of its respective source material... But with the fairly small knowledge of many (if any at all) mangas and animes I've have the pleasure to see throughout my life, I can confidently say, Kaguya Sama, IS the best adaptation I've seen as of right now... And having read the manga through and through, I'm glad it is... I don't know if there's any other story out there deserving of more love than this one, so again, I'm just glad it has been adapted like so. Having said that, to anyone that has read the manga, or doesn't care about mild contextual spoilers... Here's the Commemorative Video for when the Completion/Ending of the manga came to happen... https://youtu.be/VkIoGA5t6eg?si=6Hjb-4F-sOEzAmZ9 And yes, Shuchi'in Gakuen does have a real life counterpart the author based all the shenanigans from: Gakushuin (I see what the word play was Akasaka... 😏😂) I hope you find it as beautiful as I do. Go and have a great day guys.

2024-03-26 00:29:55 +0000 UTCI think this is the best anime ever, though Frieren might surpass it for me, so this will also be my favorite rom-com. My Dress Up Darling is my third favorite. Horimiya slightly edges it out fir me, but that can change ifvand when we get a second season. I hope you like it as much as Kagyua and i hope you get to Horimiya at some point too.
