Your frustration is understandable. It's quite obvious the director wanted to end up where they did. While they have stayed very close to the manga they did some MAJOR editing to get the last scene in. One edit sort of explains why the aftermath was not DIRECTLY addressed coming into this episode. I say directly because I feel there is a subtle difference in Marin's demeanor in this episode. She may flirt a bit at the fireworks festival, but she drops her relentless teasing. The mangaka, Fukuda, Is quite masterfull at subte storytelling alongside the big 'moments'. Example: At the beginning of the episode Gojo finishes a doll and is visibly displeased with the result. After spending a day with Marin he is shown then finishing another with a much more satisfied look. *** MINOR MANGA SPOILERS **** Immediately after EP11 Marin's father returns home for his summer vacation and she spends time him, a very cute segment showcasing another side of Marin. Half a chapter and several days are reduced to a phone call. Meanwhile Gojo begins work on the next cosplay, which should debut to open S2. Both have had time, separation and distractions to reset their tension levels. Had the sequence of events occurred during the school term and they had to face each other within a day or two that would be a different story. However, the subtle impact carries forward in the manga. To avoid spoiling S2 I won't go into how.

This show is great... my one and only gripe with the entire season is that the last episode just bothers me a lot. Don't get me wrong, I loved the individual scenes in the finale and they did a good job. Especially the final scene is such an awesome way to depict where Marin is with her feelings... That being said... one of the things I was really enamored with about this anime in particular is that they just... always picked up right where we left off. Not that skipping a day or two is a bad thing in most animes. But It was so cool that you knew exactly what you were getting at the start of a new episode because you knew exactly where we left things. I think this is why the finale bugs me so much... It's the one time they broke this formula... and it was the *ONE TIME* I most desperately *WANTED* them to pick up exactly where we left off. Then on top of that we don't even *ACKNOWLEDGE* the love hotel tension in the whole episode!? I understand that one of the best things about this anime was the fact that Marin was just so genuinely open and confident no matter what. But it's exactly that confidence that made me *so excited* to see the fallout post love hotel. Her last line in the scene "That was way to close..." made me so curious what her feelings would be after actually processing them... and then we just... ignore it? The anime was absolutely fantastic. I couldn't even tell you any flaws in the first 11 episodes.... but I just feel like the finale was so hard to enjoy because of this one issue bothering me the entire time. It feels like they did a flashback episode just so they could have the finale be the "classic" firework festival ending... It honestly feels that way. I don't read manga at all so I couldn't tell you the actual timeline... but it really does feel like we flashed back for the finale. It's the only thing that makes sense to me.

Undeath Ghost

Knew someone would say that :}

Kimi ni Todoke mentioned!!!!

Yeetus

Horimiya is great. If you're interested in older shows, Kimi ni Todoke is excellent, and sweet.

Carl Rigney

Maybe that's you want hihihi

Yoann Bigor

We just might get a 2 cour season 2. How to say this without spoiling....The long delay might be due in part to the pacing of the manga. There really hasn't been a good stopping point. But we hope there will be soon. Prez and Cara can spank me if I said too much.

Roger Powell

I put my list in the comments for ep.10 I feel My Dress Up Darling barely edges out Horimiya mainly due to Gojo's character and all the subtle storytelling. I've watched Horimiya (rewatched S1 when Peices came out) twice but MDUD somewhere around six times and notice something new each time.

Roger Powell

This is defintely one of my favorite romances. My number 1 is Horimiya, i really hope you guys get around to that one. Still waiting for season 2 of My dress up darling to hurry up and come out.

QuietF

klairvoyage

Love this show. Such great characters. I hope they bring them back for more later down the line.

Vaxus335

I second Horimiya viewing. Since Piece came out they got the entire Manga.

IKR That video floors me.

Roger Powell

The best thing is the fact that the singer didn't know that it was going to be used. She thought that they were just going to use one of her songs for the OP. She didn't find out until she watched it air. Her reaction to it is priceless. You can find it on YouTube.

Eric The Viewer

You need to look up the lyrics of the fireworks insert song ( Kimi Ni Tsutaetai Koto Ga Arunda). Dare you to keep dry eyes. I have loved you guy's reactions to this show. Gonna scoot over and see your Kaguya vids next ad wait for your next romcom.

Roger Powell

Kurri

May i pls have some HXH its my birthdayyyy!! Lol

son Lu

Maid sama would also be an amazing show to watch

Gh0ulHunter

After this, I recommend watching "The Dangers in My Heart." It is such a good show and has some similarities to "My Dress-Up Darling."

Eli Gamarra

I have Kagyua #1 and this show #3 in the rom com genre. I recommend Horimiya wich is my #2 if you are looking for another one of these types of shows. If you do make sure you watch the after credit scenes. There are only a few. As far as newer shows. Aside from Frieren and Apothecary Diaries, Dangers in my Heart is my third favorite show from last year and it is an amazing show but for different reasons than this show and my other favorite rom-coms.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Holy shit, I totally forgot about Horimiya. Its hitting the same feel-buttons as Dress up darling, if Prez and cara are not gonna watch it on stream I highly recommend watching it just privatly for yourself if you want similar feels while watching a series. (That series is like a mix of DressupDarling (the wholesome characters) and KaguyaSama (bigger cast, funny characters, best/realistic Dad + cutest little brother in any series imo.) And yes the manga is better, but I rly loved the anime too, 10/10 would recommend. Pretty sure it has 2 seasons, even if I only watched S1 and read the manga :D PS: Try not to get spoiled by anyone in terms of Horimiya, the "pacing" is fast and I think even watching a trailer or reading the plot for Ep 1 could ruin it a tiny bit !

Sascha

If you guys liked this a good replacement would be "dangers in my heart".

Big Duval

Such a lovely show. It really just makes you smile and feel all fuzzy inside.. For the same fuzzy feels I recommend Skip and Loafer. And for a romance just as wholesome I would recommend Insomniacs after school. Two shows that I sadly don't see much on polls, and would probably never win one. But.. I need to put them out there into the universe anyways :) Looking forward to future reactions <3

tinyviking

Season 2 is coming, i hope soon but the manga publish schedule is pretty slow. If i am right. There are just enough materiel to make season 2. ( we have 101 chapters, S1 adapted about 50 chapters)

Yoann Bigor

My dress up darling and horimiya are my top 2 shows in terms of wholesomeness, nothing better than a good slice of life to lighten your mood 😌

Shinkō

They did announce a Season 2 back in September of 2022, although it's been radio silent since so it's unknown how much longer before it actually comes out. That said, the story has continued in the manga, which is fantastic. The closing scene in this episode was the same in the manga, I think that was the final chapter in volume 5. (into volume 13 currently)

wiski

12 episodes was not enough for this show. i truly hope it gets a s2 down the line.

Ciego

ending song is goated
