I've had time to think about this and am ready to write another essay 😂😂 no spoilers don't worry. This whole season/arc with the sanctuary's trials has been about confronting and accepting the past to keep moving forward. We've focued on Subaru confronting the past, Garfiel too, and now Emilia is finally deciding to step up truly. Cara bein like "Aiight bet! Show me" is hilarious 😂 Its pretty genius having this whole arc taking place in one limited area. Its very symbolic of all these people *stuck* in one place. Not truly living, just surviving. Physically remaining stagnant in the present, too scared to walk to an unknown future, psychologically trapped in the past. One could label Garfiel as a shut-in. Just like Subaru was in his previous life. The Subaru and Emilia scene last episode... I can understand not liking it. Its an imperfect scene of two flawed people trying to communicate their feelings. They're both essentially the same. Two stubborn people with self esteem and self hatred issues. I see that scene as a mirror to the infamous Subaru and Rem scene in season 1. Just like Subaru was at that time, Emilia had hit rock bottom. Her already low self esteem and self worth from failing over and over again has reached new levels with the two most important people in her life leaving her and breaking their promise to her and was making the choice to just run away and hide from everyone. Now obviously Subaru was nowhere near as perfect as Rem was when he confessed his love and tried to convey how much he believes in her and wants to lift her up. He nearly fcked it up haha. But I liked that. He was being honest. Its no good to hide that ugly side of yourself. Subaru is still a selfish flawed human being. Of course he would lack the patience of Rem when she kept refusing to accept his words 😂 Cos just like Subaru was doing with Rem in S1 ep 18, no matter what he said to Emilia, she refused to believe his words. And just like Rem did, he chose to keep telling her about his love for her. "No matter what you think of yourself, no matter how others feel about you, I love you. I believe in you. You're a pain in the ass and tiresome to deal with. But I love you. I know I fcked up by breaking that promise. So if you won't believe me from my words I'll show it in my actions too." Hence the kiss. Seeing it in this way, I think it was perfect. Sure, it could've been executed more smoothly and "perfect," but that's not being true to Re:Zero and the execution of Subaru and Emilia's characters. The author is not afraid to showcase the characters looking awful doing a near terrible job at conveying their feelings. Cos these characters are imperfect and human.

Meanwhile emelia, likes subaru as a person , but has never shown actual affection The only time we saw it was when emelia had the purple eyes & went crazy… Is there a bit of cringe. Sure; but that’s the point. They are-growing; & I could type the parallels to previous season, but it would take to long

That is literally going against the MC terrible mindset. Her trials, Reason To Believe, the novels of this current Season made her 10000x better character and it made their relationship blossom way better because now it has two things relationship needs. Trust and Communication.

It's Subaru learning how to love someone properly is what's important. It's him taking her off the pedestal and allowing her to grow up, because Subaru likes to remove people autonomy, by trying to do the trials himself and not let Emilia would be a terrible move. Remember, Subaru basically hid Emilia away during Season 1 against Petelgeuse instead of letting her defend herself properly. He didn't let her help him during mansion with Rem. Subaru has always just tried to do things "for Emilia" instead of letting her do it herself. It's Emilia learning that people can truly love her for who she is. You watched Frozen Bond so you should understand exactly why Emilia has a very hard time understanding how anyone can actually love her. She looks like Satella. She's been hated on who she looks like her entire life. But of course you are right and wrong. Rezero is a romance as well, but it's not a forefront romance, where that's really just the story, but it kinda is at sametime as well because Subaru, Satella, Emilia, why she looks like her, why Satella actually genuinely loves him in episode 13. The mystery that surrounds her, why hes even isekai in first place. The mystery of 400 years. Its kinda hard to explain but you are right but also wrong. However the trials with Emilia are OOOF though if haven't seen next episodes yet. For sure pretty emotionally traumatizing. Also as a REMINDER, Satella and Emilia are both half elves which means biologically, cannot be her mother + she looks 1-1 like her and has her voice. Not saying you think it, because alot of reactors think that without truly processing what their really saying XD. I know this is an "essay" but just thought process.

I, for one, don't care at all for the romance in the show, for me, it's a “I don't mind it” kind of thing. Thank you for keeping it real, I hate fake reactors. One thing I will say, first season Subaru was a pain in the butt too, and after Rem dialogue (EP 18) things turned around. So I think it's safe to assume they are trying to do the same here.

Puck said the first one was that he broke his promise to Emilia, and then said to Subaru "You don't seem to understand how important a promise is to a spirit arts user.", so that's probably why she's so focused on the broken promise here too. And that's probably why she couldn't believe him when he said he still loved her despite her flaws, because if he lied before, why wouldn't he be lying now? It's something like that. And about how she talked to Garfiel not confronting his past, well, even before her talk with Subaru, she already had the right to say that. Garfiel tried just 1 time and never again. She tried multiple times even after failing. But yeah, even with all those points, that's a hard conversation to watch. And I'll keep my oppinion, Echidna best girl, Patrasche best dragon.

2024-07-07 22:57:23 +0000 UTCYour strong feelings for Emilia is hilarious tbh 😂 can't wait til you both finish the season to hear your final thoughts on her character. Its kinda funny, cos its almost like Subaru and Emilia switched places. Season 1, Subaru was such an insufferable piece of shit, kinda "unnecessarily" suffering over and over again because he just would not learn his lesson that he is no anime hero and that he can't do it alone. It forced him to confront the reality that he needs to change. Emilia here has been put in a loop of suffering herself. Except unlike Subaru, we don't know her or understand her cos we don't get any internal monologue from her. Thus making her issues more frustrating to watch. Just do it! Why do you keep failing! Surely its not that hard. But as Garfiel himself as shown, getting closure from the past is not easy. He spent years holding this baggage. It took multiple loops of Subaru trying to find out *how* to get through to him and get him to realize his mistake. I'm choosing to believe in Emilia. Just like how it took Rem showing her belief in Subaru to get him out of his despair, it may take believing in Emilia to help her overcome this challenge.

Now if the romance was between otto and subaru that would be a different story ;) but all jokes aside the next arc finally gives emilia the justification of being listed as a main character lmao
