Laplace's Daemon is the fact that it is impossible to know where every particle (ergo all things) will be at any point in time.

2024-07-12 22:14:11 +0000 UTCAs you have seen by now this is basically "puberty meets physics" lmao, so here's a lil background info for the more metaphysical side of the show, to help you ease into it: 𝐋𝐚𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞'𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧 is a thought experiment by Laplace that suggests that, if a hypothetical being (a "demon") existed, who knew the precise location and momentum of every atom in the universe, then it could use the laws of physics to predict the future with perfect accuracy. It explores the concept of a determinism, meaning everything, from the Big Bang onward, has been and will be predetermined, predictable and purely a matter of cause and effect – consequently questioning the idea of free will (this was before quantum mechanics were discovered, where randomness comes into play) 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐫ö𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫'𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐭 is a popular thought experiment by Schrödinger to illustrate the strange principles of quantum mechanics, that only occur at sub-atomic scale (microscopic) and what those implications would be for the visible universe (macroscopic). In the experiment, a cat (macroscopic) is placed in a sealed box with a device, that can kill it based on a random quantum event – radioactive decay (microscopic). According to quantum mechanics, the atom – and consequently the cat – is considered to be in a state of being BOTH decayed and not decayed, and the cat being BOTH alive and dead, until the box is opened and an observation is made by somebody or something. So it is not even a statistics thing of "50/50, we don't know which one tho", but it quite literally being both at the same time, until the quantum has to randomly "decide" on one of the two outcomes the moment it is observed.
