As Kaede and Sakuta were leaving the school, they pan over to a golden maple tree. Earlier in the story, Kaede says she knows that Kaede-san's name is "flower maple" (花楓). Sakuta tells her to write her name in hiragana (かえで) instead, which means so much to her because it shows that he accepts that she is a different person from 花楓. And, obviously, the maple tree at the school was symbolic of Kaede (花楓) coming back. Warning: Long bit below re Japanese writing systems. I think you may already know that Japanese has 3 different writing systems: kanji, hiragana, and katakana. Kanji is just Chinese characters, which originated from pictograms so each character is a complete word. Names are usually written in kanji and "Kaede" is 花 (flower) 楓 (maple). Hiragana and katakana are syllabaries, which is similar to an alphabet except each "letter" represents a complete phonetic sound: か(ka) え(e) で(de). Japanese learners are usually taught the 46 hiragana characters first. BTW, in Horimiya, this is why Hori and Shota make fun of Miyamura when he said he wasn't good at writing his name when he was Shota's age because they were like "the kanji characters for your name aren't even that hard!"

So to see it get flipped around as a plot point and the fact she literally is referring to the Other Kaede the whole time, and not herself was so well done.
