These are preliminary games in high school, so probably why they go by best of 3. and the feeling of sitting out while the team potentially loses your last ever match in high school - coach Ukai probably felt that, since he mentioned briefly how he was a setter in third yr but the younger setter was picked instead of him.

To help Asahi, because he can't do it himself. His friend and team more important then his pride. I love the 3 rd year so much.
