86 Eighty Six Episode 8

With all the reveals and incredible moments between the characters, this was one of the toughest watches we've had. So much of this show makes you think about what's happening around us through history and even right now, sorry if our end discussion wasn't the usual perky style😅

The strangling I believe happened after they were sent to the camps. The Alba at the end is the priest Raiden mentioned before, that took care of Shin in the camps. You'll Notice Rei is holding his parents casuailty notifications. So they got sent to the camps and their parents got conscripted, faught against the legion, were KIA and then he got the letters saying his father and mother were dead and snapped at Shin as shown

The Alba adult that comes to help Shin is a priest. In a past episode they mentioned that some Alba helped the 86, including a priest that raised shin. The Friendship between Anette and Shin is also the reason all her potential partners are a lot younger or older. All the people around her age now about her friendship with a “dirty colored”. They do not want that “dirt” on them by association.

Idk if it was clear in the episode, but when Annette was talking about the family that lived next door, she said they had an ability to communicate without speaking, and that was used to experiment and create the RAID devices used by them. It's literally Shin's ability to hear the voices of the Legion and the dead 86 that's mimicked by the RAID devices.

I think the word that comes to mind for me when coming away from these episodes is melancholy.

Annette and Jerome are some of the most interesting characters in this season, as it's interesting to see 2 characters that know exactly what is going on, and to know that they can do nothing about it. Annette copes by trying to ignore it, and Karlstahl follows his orders and tries to make things work, which just makes him disgusted with the republic. Always liked seeing that side of things.

Not a lot of people understand Uncle Jérôme or his purpose, yes he's depicted as the embodiment of all that's wrong with their republic, but who can say that he doesn't despise himself for that as well? Out of everyone we've seen so far, he's an officer with battle scars, so we can assume that he's seen and/or fought on the battlefield before. He's the perfect example and foil to Lena's ideals and hope, as someone who knows their crimes but chooses to do nothing because they feel powerless even though he is in a place of power is a possible future Lena could be in. It all boils down to they're in too deep, it'll take too much effort and confronting their crimes to change, so mind as well be ignorant, lay down, and enjoy the cake. No one wants to admit they are wrong, if you're a citizen of the republic, to realize your society is doing something wrong is too uncomfortable. You'll be mocked and ignored, just look how easily they mocked Anette for being friends with a "coloured" even though they're in District 1, one of the more well-off districts; wealth and status don't matter, if you are not an alba, off you go.

This probably wasn't the episode for perky end discussions anyways.
