Haikyuu! S2 Episode 5

Hinata's greed taking over

Comments

Nah you're good! We honestly didn't expect all these conversations happening in the comments but it's great to see how well written these moments are that it's clear both sides have some depth and truth to them!

I personally want to lean towards Hinata because of course he should be striving to be more than a one trick pony, but just because of the time frame being so small (1 month) I can really see why Kageyama (who's far more experienced) is against it since it might blow up in their face next month if it's not perfected. Honestly either way both have legitimate arguments, that's what makes this so good😂 - Prez

thats waht im thinking just because a tournament is coming is he not allowed to learn new things. then when is the the time for him to evolve. and all three of them suga, ukai and kageyama are thinking only as a setter and not trying to understand what it means for a spiker to fight on his own.

It's always interesting to see people's opinions on their arguments because they're definitely both making reasonable points. On the one hand, their quick is already good so hinata should focus on the other areas in which he is clearly lacking, where he could improve more easily and quickly within the very short time frame they have. Yet, as hinata pointed out, it has been stopped; multiple times and by multiple teams. If this attack is the best that this duo can do and its still not good enough when the sets are perfect, then the only area to improve it or change is hinata. Also, its clear that he just doesn't want to be tied to kageyama's abilities and wants to be a good player on his own which is totally fair.

It’s all good

KZ

Damn not sure why the render messed up there, sorry guys!

Cara&Prez

What happened to the last few seconds of the episode? It bugged out

KZ

What was that moan in the beginning 😂😂😂

takeda sensei being a romanticist while ukai being a realist is such a good coaching team up. and the whole reason why karasuno had a chance was because takeda was inspired by the karasuno at its peak and wanted to revive the club. even tho his speeches to the team may sound cheesy but it's exactly what they needed. love him. best character imo

You can definitely see where both characters are coming from with this. I will say I have always leaned more to Hinata’s side of this argument though. How can anyone tell him he can’t do it if he’s never even been able to practice it. How can you say let’s just do what we’ve always done and not change anything when you lost from doing that same thing. Hinata is constantly being told he has no will of his own outside of Kageyama, not only is that frustrating on its own, but that didn’t even help them win last time

big apologies for the wall of text lmao that got away from me a bit. loving this reaction series so much, haikyuu is so weirdly emotionally complex for a hype sports anime sometimes haha

i think this situation is just very tricky, and comes with astronomically poor timing considering how little time there is before the tournament prelims. and apologies for the essay lol but this episode is so fascinating to me in terms of the relationship development at play for hinata, i think he is scared that he will be tied to kageyama's skill forever and never be given the opportunity to stand on his own. while its true that the whole point is to work as a team and its not about any one individual during a game, its also true that a good team needs good players. every person who stands on the court has to be capable of strength from their own skill, and hinata just doesnt have that skill. he is a self taught player who has never had a coach, never had a teacher, never even had a friend who also knew the rules that he could bounce ideas off of. he literally does not and couldnt be expected to have the skills or experience necessary to learn on his own at this point - regardless of his one unique contribution to the team, in terms of his basic skills hes woefully incompetent, and just hasnt been taught how to learn. he needs someone to help teach and train him so he can be stronger, which is why he pulled kageyama aside in the first place but for kageyama, i think his reaction comes at least partly from his history. you have to remember this kid has a whole load of complexes when it comes to his skill level in this sport, and literally like 3 months ago he was basically kicked off his team because his skill level and unhealthy desire to push his teammates went unchecked. and here's hinata, telling him to his face that their skills are on different levels and that kageyamas skills specifically are a problem for hinata's growth. its a whole different scenario, but i honestly think hes reacting out of fear that hes going to be rejected again. hes right that completely dropping the one thing hinata's good at seemingly on a whim to just try something new is phenomenally stupid. hinata literally does not have the capacity to learn like that because he hasnt been taught how to. hes right that his basic volleyball skills are inadequate and need focus, because a self taught player thrown in the deep end with no experience is obviously going to be lacking skill. hinata needs to be taught the basics and how to apply them to his growth, and kageyama isnt really a teacher but he is supposed to be his partner in the fight to get stronger. the fact kageyama is lashing out without even thinking about hinata's perspective is definitely not right, but it is understandable yachi mvp though for sure. poor baby is in way over her head. she just wanted to say yes to anything kiyoko said and now she has to deal with teenage boy angst lmao

me having this in my second monitor and as soon as I watched my first monitor I was like hold up wtf just happened in the first 3 seconds? XD

I see both sides of this argument with them but I think it's hard for Hinata because he essentially didn't have a team during middle school so now that he has a real team and real coach etc he wants to actually improve but everyone is telling him he can't because he can only do the one thing. It's a hard place to be for sure
