They had to stop the broadcast multiple times for weeks because of massive problems, that lead to the viewerbase dropping off rapidly. Thats why there are like 4 additional recap episodes each time they had to pause the broadcast. Also all in all the series just did not sell that great. It was not a flop but had very average BluRay/DVD sales in Japan compared to the high production cost and thats the main reason we most likely will never see a continuation. Honestly just read the Light Novels, they are all available in English up to book 12. The anime ends at the end of volume 3.

2024-10-26 05:52:24 +0000 UTCIf this episode feels oddly final, that's because it's basically the end of the first novel apart from an epilogue. The author wrote it for a contest without an expectation of more, but then she won and it was made into a series.

(As Lena found the orders for, every Spearhead Squadron before them was ordered to do the same.) So they are following Republic orders by continuing forward into Legion held territory. (So, by last episode's logic, they likely won't be pursued by Republican forces) Republican command will expect them to eventually run out of ammunition/food and die, if they return to republican territory they will be executed for disobeying orders (All as seen as last episode.)
