I think I can explain a bit of what you might mean. Because I can cite an example of a title I have similar feelings about. I loved it but, Freiren is not an epic quest fantasy. (pause for screaming to die down) There is a distinct lack of the most critical element, a final boss. It is however, very well written to appeal to fans of the genre. Makeine is to rom-com what Freiren is to the epic quest fantasy,

It’s a title that trips people up, because knowing a little bit of Japanese actually makes you more likely to pronounce it wrong (literally “a small amount of knowledge is a dangerous thing”!) Boring explanation here (feel free to ignore): Make-heroine (負けヒロイン) comes from makeru (負ける), meaning “to lose”, and heroine (which is pronounced like “hero in” in Japanese, and isn’t a homophone of any illegal substances), and it’s a word only used amongst romcom (ラブコメ) otaku in Japan (especially including harem fans, of course), even a lot of anime otaku in Japan don’t really use it. Nao Toyama is a voice actress famous amount fans for always playing the “make-heroine” character in anime (she was Tomoe Koga in Bunnygirl Senpai) and that’s where I first heard this word used. The fact that she isn’t in this show borders on being a crime! Anyway, “Makeine” (stylised as 負けイン) is just the first part of makeru combined with the last part of heroine (so I guess it should be written “Make-ine”), and that’s how it should be pronounced (although you need to take care to pronounce the e and the i in the middle separately and distinctly, otherwise you end up just saying “McCain” and make me want some proper oven chips). In Japan this is just a fan nickname and a hashtag to tweet about the show, but the translators decided to make it part of the official title for some reason (I will continue to call it “Losing Heroines”, though, because I’m old and stubborn). tl;dr - It’s pronounced “Ma” “Keh” “Inn” as three syllables* *for the people who say “4 actually”, I don’t want to disagree, but let’s not get into what is or isn’t a syllable in Japanese, that’s a mess well above my pay grade.

The only thing you still didn't see that it's in the opening, is the appearance of some characters that didn't appear in episode 1, but they just show them and that's it, so it's free of spoilers.

This series uses many of those tropes for side love interests as the basis for our main heroine cast. I would say this show did an excellent job at showing the nuances of romance and relationships, real life isn't like an anime (ironically enough). These girls after being rejected by their supposedly male protagonist love interest, have to move on, while contending with existing relationships.
