HAAH He does look like Yamaguchi's dad!! That's the first time someones said that and it has me dying. Yeah a pinch server is someone who has a good serve but isn't as good overall as the starting 6. You'd sub them in on important serves for someone who's not a strong server (ie: hinata or Tsukki). Yamaguchi is also a middle blocker, like those two, but they're much better at hitting and blocking- but! he's got a killer serve and 10+11 are the worst servers on Karasuno. They wouldn't sub him in on the back row outside of serves, bc he hasn't shown anything (atleast tht we've seen) as a receiver/passer. They put Noya in for them on the back row for defense (as a Libero he has unlimited subs, but any non-libero sub is limited to 1 x/set for each player. So say Suga had come in for Hinata earlier, and then Yamaguchi subbed in for him, none of those players would be able to return to the court until the next set. Hope that makes sense). The reason why they keep 10+11 in on the back row sometimes despite their bad defense is to keep them in the rhythm of the gamementally plus they theoretically are more likely to succeed on a back attack than Suga or Yama.

2025-01-12 19:40:24 +0000 UTCYAMAGUCHI <3 i actually almost cried the first time i read/watched because of how amazing this moment was for him. he's genuinely the entire reason karasuno was even able to catch up to seijoh at this point of the match, it's so great for his development. and of course the little seijoh moment <3 it genuinely shows how they're all such good friends on that team, and they're able to remain calm no matter the situation because they're all good and they know that and they trust each other so so much. i also really liked oikawa giving yamaguchi credit and yamaguchi acknowledging oikawa's ability as well, it was really wholesome

2024-12-27 06:48:03 +0000 UTCYeah, so the pinch server is like a player who's really good at serving who they put in to disrupt the flow from the other team, when you're trying to put a stop to their streak of points and to rake up points for your team to catch up (or sometimes even if you get a point and lose one, it still breaks the pattern / flow), similar to how teams strategically call for timeouts when the opposing team scores consecutive points, or especially when the opposing team hits the 20 point mark.
