2025-09-09 19:48:03 +0000 UTCFrom what I can tell it probably used to have that stigma but as anime has gotten more and more globally popular and "socially acceptable" it's become more of a tourist attraction and less of a "creepy" thing - probably largely due to rom-coms often using it as a "sterotypical" event in their storyline. I guess what i'm getting at is that it's sort of been normalized, a bit?

2025-03-14 20:17:52 +0000 UTCMaid cafes are legitimate bussineses i.e they're not forefronts fot brothels or nothing of the like, some even have very strict rules when it comes to what can and cannot do/ask from the staff. At first and well into the first half of the 2000's they were more back alley bussineses that ranged from niched restaurants for the creeps and actual shady and sometimes illegal bussineses. Nowadays they 're much more destigmatized and while is still an oddity it will rarely give you the side eye from your coworkers but a raised eyebrow, more of a "oh, you're into that stuff" in opposed to "EW! you're into THAT stuff?!"

There are plenty of othere type of themed Cafes, I've seen a few on YouTube like sexy nun, succubus, muscle girl. There also ones for females like butler cafes

2025-03-14 17:15:11 +0000 UTCNever been to Japan, but from what I have seen in other animes you are definitely viewed as a creep if you go to a made cafe, that’s why in anime those places are always frequented by middle aged dudes. If someone knows better feel free to correct me!
