Solo Leveling S2 Episode 12

THE HYPE DELIVERED

Comments

Jin woo wanted to hide he is hunter from his mom so he broke the TV before going to fight. Broadcast was cut by the media itself cause black ant appeared. JinWoo used ant as soldiers without telling anyone to keep quiet. Also Jinwoo in Anime is a lot more emotional compared to original. Also the emotional part of why people wanted to clear Juju island and everyone was hyped up was because a lot of people lost their loved ones and wanted the revenge. So when Jin Woo appeared and stood in front if ant with confidense even broadcasting agency believed in him. Everyone had hope that even after losing 3 times now they will surely win. They cut the part which explained why Juju island is important for many people, that's why we never felt the urgency to watch them clear the island.

NOVEL INFO, NO SPOILERS In the novels, the explanation is a little bit more extended upon. His dad was a hunter and disappeared in a dungeon. At the time of Jeju Island, he hasn't told his mom he is a hunter as to not stress her out after her recovery. If that was his motivation, going to clear an S rank gate would be the complete opposite of what he wanted to do. I agree that it's still slightly selfish, but from his POV the strike squad was extremely competent and would have 0 issues if Japan wasn't planning on betraying Korea and Beru wasn't there. Beru was conceived as the ultimate killing machine of S Rank Hunters, I believe he would no-low diff Goto even without eating some of the other S Ranks. He has been eating S Rank Ants (his own kind) for multiple months. I know from the anime it seems like he spawned recently.

WARNING!! RANT AHEAD (sorry if this bothers anyone but I like this community and I feel comfortable sharing my thoughts here) As much as I love Solo Leveling, I can't seem to make myself enjoy this arc. In terms of story and plot, I feel like it's extremely lacking for something that's been built up since the very beginning. Like, the entire reason for Jinwoo not going with everyone else is absolutely weak. He's been super proactive the entire series about getting stronger to protect his family and then all of a sudden he changes to an "I'll wait for something bad to happen instead of taking the initiative to get rid of any potential dangers to my family" attitude. One: if he just went with them in the beginning, his army and powers could have saved a lot of time and made everything a lot smoother; Two: Jinwoo hasn't gotten stronger since the start of this arc, but the Ant only gets as strong as it is from killing a bunch of the S-ranks, which could have been prevented if Jinwoo had just gone with them in the first place. I think there were other reasons but I can't think right now, too tired. Don't get me wrong, the production and execution of these final episodes have been *chef's kiss* , but I just have issues with the way the story is written here. Especially because I think some of the following arcs are quite awesome and the whiplash kills me every time. The tl;dr: Everything that went wrong during this arc is Jinwoo's fault and I don't like how the events play out in writing. To anyone who made it this far, thanks for reading my silly ranting and have a good day/night/afternoon/evening? (circle one)!

Also the Queens Power for Absolute control over the ants was beacuse he Used his Skill Gluttony. Btw, they don't know his name is Beru yet soo... kinda of a spoiler i guess.

Not at all I tink you completely missed the point i was making here haha! Back in your days was probably also "my days" I started most animes like Aot from the 1st episode and with the manga, same with naruto and one piece so I basically waited 10 literall years to see the end of the anime I was loving. It has nothing to with "wanting everything now" it's imply a matter of rythm and cutting season into episodes. I typed another reply to explain in more details why I don't like this particular cliffhanger in Solo Leveling (knowing that i already read everything before the anime started so I already know everything) The "tiktok fried brain" excuse can't work against any criticism haha I just genuinely think sometimes these cliffhangers are bad and pointless

Rocketboy

I dont know if you guys noticed, but the Beru was taking abilities from the S ranks he ate, regeneration from the S rank healer, and Ice from the Ice mage that he killed, so if you really think about it, not only did Jinwoo beat Beru by himself, but he beat Beru combined with at least 10 other S ranks strength and abilities including Goto. Such an amazing episode absolutely amazing

Lona

Ahh okay

I think that people are getting fed-up with cliffhangers basically just because of how used to instant-gratification (I couldn't care less either way) they have gotten. Back in my day, I had to wait an entire week just to have access to a very few anime, and if I missed a week, I might NEVER get to see that episode unlike today where there are like 1000 different streaming platforms bringing entertainment media to our fingertips anytime anywhere on-demand.

Virtuous_Wanderer

If the rumors are true, ep. 13 will be a 45 minute special but, take that with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Virtuous_Wanderer

Yeah idk if it's because I read it slower than the anime explained it lmao but some details feels so rushed, things just happens and they dont talk about it (I recently rewatched the chimera ants arc from HxH so maybe I'm biased by how developped everything is compared to Beru lol)

Rocketboy

I can make a pretty solid guess depending on if the rumors I have heard of EP. 13 being a double header (45 minute episode), or a standard 23 minutes based off the approx. amount of content covered per episode.

Virtuous_Wanderer

To me a cliffhanger's point is to build a hype around a upcoming event that is WORTH putting frustration upon the viewers. Is the very specific case (this episode) it is not worth at all and serves close to no point. This is something that needs to be used with care you can't just spam cliffhangers on every single episode. Just like a slow motion is great to emphasize a shot, too many slow motion make it lose it's flavor and it becomes tiring and annoying (like in Rebel Moon there is an insane slow motion ratio it feels like it's always playing in 0,25x lol). That's how I feel about cliffhangers in this anime, some are great, some are unnecesseray, some are pointless like this one. BUT I'm saying this as someone who read the manhwa already so I know what's coming and I can't underestand how they thought it was a good idea to hype people for nothing much, this is basically a bait a this point (good for viewership actually) And less specifically, for me, too many cliffhangers ruins to rythm of a show and. You can end an episode is a specific way to build hype on the next one without resorting to a cliffhanger. A tv show that does that to perfection is Reacher, every single opening and ending scene of every episode are calculated to hype you on what's next and there are only few cliffhanger Building hype at the end of an episode for an upcoming event doesn't require such hardcore cliffhangers, we've seen great ways to do so in diverse TV shows thoughout the years

Rocketboy

I agree with it feeling a bit rushed, there are some cool moments that were left out and other scenes that have been moved around (Like Jinwoo bringing his mom home from the hospital initially happening after the sparring match with Japan and is part of why he doesn't go join the jeju raid, where in the anime it happens before the sparring match)

Grandmasta

That was an insane episode oh boy

hellios6

right, I'm saying I'm looking forward to seeing what moment they choose to use as the cliffhanger for the end of episode 13, which is the end of the season.

Grandmasta

Don't mind me being unhinged lmao

Astriea

Uhhh… I don’t see how cliffhangers are bad… it’s just hype for the next episode. And yeah it is a little rushed but it’s not to the point that it ruins the show so I don’t really mind

KZ

Nah it’s can’t be… there has to be one more episode after the next one…

KZ

There's still episode 13 to go.

axilir21

LOL WHAT????

KZ

Insane episode! Having already read the entire manhwa, the only thing that is starting to kinda disappoint me is the cliffhangers... Like at this point it's on every damn episode and it feels like every single episode ends like 15sec too soon. Some cliffhangers for the hype is greta, one every damn episode is wayyyy too much This one doesn't even add anything beside frustration. I also start to think the anime feels kinda rushed compare to the manhwa or the ant had always been poorly developped (like it's just a strong mob) From now on it only gets better and better but i'm curious to see how the anime will adapt everything

Rocketboy

I started as anime only, then switched to reading it a few episodes ago. I'm excited to see what they choose to end the season on.

Grandmasta

23:07 it got overshadowed from Prez's desperation to not end the episode lol. But Jinwoo turned back cause he heard a voice calling out, poentially giving him the answer to Jinwoo's question on how to help Cha

asianbomb1210

Insert Ant King 2 and 3, the lil bros lmao

Xaniss

Yeah, I was wondering if Jinwoo was thinking he could extract the shadow of the Ant King and have him save Cha Hae-In?

chaosdreamer

I need a cigarette after that

Astriea

Yeah they didn't explain his ability, he was literally eating stuff for MONTHS before the raid to get his strength and abilities

Xaniss

Reminder: the ant acquired ALL skills of the peeps it snacked on Like demonstrated in the battle (e. g. The ice spikes from the Japanese s-rank )
