Legend of the galactic heroes is my favorite anime of all time and you just made me realize the parallels between Canute and Reinhard for the first time. That series already perfectly showcased why benevolent dictators are bad for the people

2025-05-11 10:04:55 +0000 UTCI will be treading the same comments people have left here but remember Canute's ideals were born from his revelation in season 1 that man cannot pass the trials set for him on earth to reach heaven where true indiscriminate love exists because of their very nature of greed and power shown as an example by the Vikings such as Bjorn. He wants to give meaning to their battles on earth to oppose those in his way and unite those who supports his cause so that when he has all the power he can impose a world without suffering and introduce love back in the hearts of all who support him especially the Vikings who are the people he can use to obtain this power

But due to these sins, the vikings will never go to Gods paradise. So he’ll save the vikings, unite them and then create a paradise on Earth for them, essentially giving all Vikings salvation and purpose. Though of course this is my interpretation, I could be completely wrong, but I’m pretty sure it’s something like this.

2025-05-09 21:25:14 +0000 UTCCanute's commanding the waves to stop is based on a semi apocryphal account of his late life. The story goes that when he was old he sat in his throne in the beach with the water washing his feet and, just like here, he commanded the waves to stop. When this obviously didn't happened, he step up and declared the mere power of a king could not be compared with the power of God who ruled heaven and earth which is the complete opposite that see here, an interesting spin

2025-05-09 20:32:57 +0000 UTCWhat I think Canute is saying is that he wants to conquer the world so that once he has control over all of it he can stop wars and suffering. But the only way to conquer the world is through war, so he needs to gather strength and make sacrifices to achieve his goal.
