Patreon Bonus Video - Stone Walls Magnetic Upgrade Tutorial!

Hi guys!

So I wanted to pull this together as a Patreon exclusive video because it's a bit niche for it to do well in the algorithm as a full YouTube video, and is an entirely optional upgrade, not a core part of the system :)

Doing it this way also allows me to complete little videos like this faster, which lets me make them alongside main sequence videos without slowing that down much...

And of course, lets me give something more unique to those people who are awesome enough to support the channel in this way and help me keep making videos!

The one thing I was meaning to show in the video which I didn't remember to grab a clip of was the final image of the door to show how I attached a second paper clip. it's really simple though, the first clip is in the middle, the second one is right next to it, just closer to the 'inside' of the door so when you open it it's still close enough to connect to the magnets. I might upgrade the video with a clip of that if and when I get time - because with it not being a main video, I can do that without messing with the algorithm!

I also mention my wash formula in the video, and a few people have asked about it. I've also included the updated painting recipe here!

For the wash, currently I use a 200ml bottle to make it, in the following breakdown. For a Half bottle (100ml) of wash (a full bottle is a bit much, I tend to mix it as I need it) I mix:

60% to 40% water to matte medium

I then add in flow improver, a few drops

Finally I add 15 drops carbon black ink, and 5 drops transparent burnt umber (brown)

Updated painting recipe September 2021

basecoat of equal parts mix of mod podge, tan and neutral grey

then paint about 1/2 the bricks in either 3:1:1 tan:neutral grey:white, or 1:1:2 tan:neutral grey:white
Make sure this layer is strong, not translucent by too much water thinning.

Drybrush all with 1:1:2 tan:neutral grey:white

Drybrush all white - make this reasonably strong, or it just wont show through the wash. it's worth doing a test tile until you're comfortable with the result :)

Black-brown wash, shown above

The method and theory is the same as my original painting stone video, its just different colours:)

As I say guys, hope that helps, and I hope this video is interesting if nothing else, and helps those of you that want to magnetise the system more completely!

Glad I watched this before painting my still in progress stable build. For a moment I held my breath when you said about magnetising the walls. I feared I’d have to redo my recent work. Luckily I can add those paper clips in along the wooden beams so they are ready for the accessories :) Love how you continuously improve what is already a really versatile system. Keep up the great work!
