I made this .blend file from the last scene I finished with James in his Arwing. I just took most of the assets out, deleted the animation frames, and cleaned up the Compositor nodes, making them easier to understand.
This single ~20MB .blend file will be an example of my current 10-layer setup, and is intended as a template for all the future scenes that I create.
Layer 01: Far Terrain
Layer 02: BG layer mesh objects
Layer 03: BG layer Grease Pencil lines/scuffs
Layer 04: MG layer mesh objects
Layer 05: MG layer Grease Pencil lines/scuffs
Layer 06: Grease Pencil character art
Layer 07: 3D model shaders for GP art
Layer 08: FG layer mesh objects
Layer 09: FG layer Grease Pencil lines/scuffs
Layer 10: Fog
I wanted to release this file for anyone and everyone interested in learning how to animate in Blender, and I'm also willing to explain every aspect of this file, so anyone that has an interest in making a cartoon with similar effects can do so with a 100% free program. I might make a video explaining the Compositor nodes and Render Layers if anyone is interested, or maybe a live screenshare/workshop on Discord.
Either way, here is the file. Open it, hit F12, it'll render out the scene at 1920x1080.
(Use Blender 2.93 LTS or later)
