Panel #2 I think works really well with her realizing what he is doing, almost like she can't believe it, which makes my imagination construct a backstory that she is not actively sought after at her school due to having a shy demeanor and freckles (Not everyone can have as good of taste as us ;) ) and has developed this self image that tells her that she is not as attractive as other girls. Thankfully, young James here is more than ready to challenge that notion.
