Star Wars Rebels Season 4 Premiere POLL!
Added 2017-10-17 20:19:09 +0000 UTCWhat do you think about the non lethal or bodily harm use of Lightsabers in Star Wars Rebels?

Something similar I started noticing a lot more in this episode in particular is that we don't really see people actually getting shot in this show. We always have these cross-hangar shootouts with lots of shots of the Stormtroopers firing their blasters, and lots of shots of the Rebels and their friends firing their blasters, and you occasionally see a Stormtrooper laying on the ground, but it's very rare to actually see someone get shot, go down, and stay down. Anytime it looks like someone's about to get killed, they either dodge it or the scene cuts away.

2017-10-19 12:04:15 +0000 UTCThe thing that annoyed me this episode is that they brushed under the rug the fact that Bo-Katan was a terrorist trying to overthrow her sister. In one episode her and Pre Vizsla even terrorize a helpless village and enslave its women. How is she qualified to lead Mandalore? Fen Rau would make much more sense. 1. He fought for the Republic in the CW 2. Has Jedi allies 3. And is a Protector (the house that serves the crown). But I guess feminist agendas at disney rule out all reason

2017-10-19 01:53:37 +0000 UTCThe way that the light sabers have been used from the start of this show is why I can't stand it at all. It takes one of the most iconic aspects of the Star Wars universe and makes it nothing more than a simple glow-stick bat, not a 'weapon'.

2017-10-18 20:53:18 +0000 UTCIt's not really distracting to me. It opens up some creative ways to get rid of stormtroopers and other enemies

2017-10-18 19:19:51 +0000 UTCWith No More Inquisitors just seems like Light Sabers are plot devises for Other characters to can tell Kanan and Ezra are Jedi. Most jedi use there Light Sabers as a last resort on Rebels its used well differently

2017-10-18 16:47:16 +0000 UTCRating wise there's a big difference between cutting up droids and cutting up human beings. Which is why they had a fair bit of leeway with the Clone Wars. but that aside I think the main reason (other than its a kids show and they're Jedi) we didn't see much or any cutting up of storm-troopers is purely due to production resources. Its much easier to have them hit by a blaster bolt and fall down in one piece, or disarmed and kicked/force pushed out of the shot, than it is to have models and rigs specifically made to come apart in various places, and then having to animate the body parts realistically and have animated textures to match lightsaber slashes.
2017-10-18 15:47:53 +0000 UTCThere was something interesting that came up in 2015 with the release of Halo 5, and its TEEN ERSB rating. ERSB came out themselves and stated that it wasn’t because of a decreased amount of violence, it was because younger audiences had becomed more accustomed to those levels of violence, and games that used to be rated MA, could easily fall into the T category. Maybe TV needs to re-evaluate it’s rating system as wel.

2017-10-18 13:27:31 +0000 UTCIt’s not normally a problem, but in these two episodes in particular it is a problem. Because of the lengths they go to disarm rather than actual kill, it accents a lot of the other little “hey, we’re a kids show” things. Take the ambush scene. It felt like everyone was a stormtrooper even though they were maybe five feet from each other.

2017-10-18 13:16:37 +0000 UTCWell, he was the Inquisitor. The bad guy. I think it's because they don't really want to depict the heroes as cold blooded killers. I mean even in Clone wars the Jedi usually preferred to disarm their opponents, and only kill if it's absolutely necessary. In the Clone wars the people who did the most brutal stuff were the bad guys (Asajj, Savage, Maul, Death Watch). Anakin was pretty brutal against the Zygerrian slavers, but that is not surprising and not very Jedi-like. Even Mace Windu in Season 6 when he works together with Jar Jar tries his best to defeat his enemies non-lethally. I'm just saying that it's not that unusual when you think about it. Personally i'm not that bothered by it.

2017-10-18 10:24:48 +0000 UTCthat was the only time that happened last season tho. Almost like a way to show Ezra was "darker" then they backtracked

2017-10-18 04:15:39 +0000 UTCThe whole saber stabbing rule makes even less sense when you remember Kanan got stabbed by the Inquisitor in Ezra's vision in Path of the Jedi and you actually saw him stab Kanan so i never understood why they wouldn't do that anymore after that episode

2017-10-18 04:11:22 +0000 UTCHey now, using a lightsaber to disarm goes back to the very first time we see Old Ben wield his in ANH!

2017-10-18 02:41:43 +0000 UTCIt's distracting. Especially when people get angry or let loose like it still feels like they are holding back too much. It wasn't very noticeable at first but you can't miss it in season 4

2017-10-17 23:56:24 +0000 UTCThe irony of them not wanting the show to be too violent is that their concept of violence is rather fluid, especially when you can have cannon fodder get shot in the head or blown up inside a ship but not have them lose an arm or a leg to a lightsaber. I feel like that's what's so distracting; not the actual lack of violence but the inconsistency of what violent acts are committed on screen and when. It speaks to a desire on the part of the creators to have this show be all things to all people rather than committing to its own identity. That commitment is part of the reason why so many people loved the clone wars.
2017-10-17 23:21:23 +0000 UTCIt doesn't really bother me to be honest.

2017-10-17 22:43:13 +0000 UTCI know the show's for kids, but damnit I want to see Ezra kill some empire scum!
2017-10-17 22:06:20 +0000 UTCIt's not an issue, the show has been doing that since Season 1, Episode 1 why would things be different now

2017-10-17 21:55:25 +0000 UTCIt's been one of my complaints from the beginning. Even in the moments the show does go 'dark', you never actually see the blades make contact. Obi-Wan slicing Darth Maul? You never see the slice from the front. Maul killing the Inquisitors? You never actually see it. Etc etc. I get that it's Disney and they want it to be suitable for kids, but if you treat your kids like idiots, then you get idiots. The Clone Wars was suitable for both kids AND adults, but still had the guts to actually do what it needed to do to tell its story.

2017-10-17 21:24:49 +0000 UTCIt doesn't bother me. I never really have paid any attention to it.
2017-10-17 21:16:01 +0000 UTCThis is mainly due to the fact that Disney wants this show to be aimed at kids between the ages of 7-14, and they don't want their children's show to be too violent. I don't like it, considering its predecessor really managed to get that fun but gritty feeling that Star Wars is known for, but I can kind of understand it considering how Disney is with their properties. I'm just waiting for the eventual KOTOR series that's apparently going to be rated MA.

2017-10-17 20:55:56 +0000 UTCEspecially distracting with all the talk of how this gonna be the darkest season yet...granted there were people turned to ash this episode...but still, they've shown them killing before with the sabers. Don't see why it's a problem now. Did they move time slots or something?
Carlos
2017-10-17 20:27:28 +0000 UTCIt doesn't make any sense to me. Remember in the Season 3 premier where Ezra jumped into a group of stormtrooers in a hallway, slashed one with the saber, deflected a laser blast back to another, then Force pushed another to incapacitate him all in one shot alone? They've kill stormtroopers with their light sabers before. Not to mention that Maul killed the inquisitors with his lightsaber. I hope they aren't retracting to a less mature tone than the past two seasons.
Austin Bryant
2017-10-17 20:24:12 +0000 UTCIt's distracting because you can show dudes getting blown to bits shot and TURNED TO ASH because they were cooked alive in their armor, but a few swings or even a stab from a saber is too brutal? I don't really like it.
