You guys are misunderstanding the rules just a little bit. Once you write a name in the book that person will die--if you just write the name and nothing else they the person will die in 40 seconds of a heart attack (it's like the default setting)-- but if you want to be specific about how they die then you have 6 mins and 45 seconds (I think, not sure why it's so specific) to write the specific time and cause of death.

people know that , its just that we are so used to our protagonist be a good guy vs antagonist who is a bad guy we assume every movie or anime or show is like that

They're still thinking about this in a basic way, I'm afraid this won't be a typical good and evil story, the line between those two concepts is quite blurred with all the twisted ideology in this show.

I believe at a mid episode point it says when picking a time of death it has to be within 30 days or it won't happen.

I have to admit, I adored Death Note way back in the day, but my fandom kinda fell off over the years, and I voted hard against this winning, but now that the crew started the series, not only am I reminded of how good Death Note was, but seeing the crew seriously enjoying it and breaking it down so much has me SUPER happy it won....as long as Firefly is next, of course :)

They are going to appreciate the next episode for giving them more rules and some limitations alone lol. Glad to see they are enjoying this though.

I won't say what they are since it could be considered spoiling, but the author did make a very detailed long list of all the rules of the Death Note. It might be cool to pull them up after the final episode for discussion. They might answer some questions or promote more questionable scenarios.

Every time I watch a reactor start this series and see are the careful planning and wit of Light (aside from the Linde thing) I get sad that the Netflix movie just throws it all out the window. :(

Light is the protagonist--that just means "main character," not hero. L is the antagonist, it means "main person opposing main character," not villain. Light is definitely a villain, not a hero, but it depends on your morality whether you think L is a hero or not. (I don't think either's really a "good guy," but Light's a LOT worse.) (Sorry, it's a pet peeve of mine when people don't know the diff. between protagonist/antagonist and hero/villain. I think it leads to a lot of confusion.)

You can only manipulate the date of death to be 23 or 27 days(don’t remember exactly) after you’ve written the name, it’s on the rules.

I guess that If the date of death Light writes is after the natural date of death, the death note doesn't work. It can't add life span, it only reduces it.
