Death Note Episode 8 Reaction Early Access!

Comments

I'll definitely be reading the manga :)

miss_hopefulsnail

Yeah I hated the ending so much that whenever I would do rewatches, I would usually just stop after ep 25. I've seed eps 1-25 at least 9-10 times now haha and I've only seen the episodes after that maybe 2-3 times. I agree, they should've kept that one character around to the end or something. I will say though that I read the end of the manga and it's handled SOOOO much better imo. I plan on reading the whole thing eventually but I highly recommend reading the end of the manga if you get the chance.

Kryptic

I agree. I feel "white" had so much more potential. I wished they had made him a greater version of "black". I could've delt without "yellow" all together - I didn't feel like he really needed to be there. Or... they should've never have had episode 25 end the way it did and kept "black". But then again, I'm sure the manga handled it better. I'm still not sure how I feel about the ending. Part of me didn't like, but another part of me thinks it makes sense. In any case, I will definitely be watching this again.

I love the series but I feel like the episodes after 26 are lackluster or at least not as good as 1-25. I think the new characters are not nearly as intriguing. I originally hated the last episode because a certain character dies, but it's grown on me over time. Still love this show tho! I hope you enjoyed it! :)

Kryptic

Yeah, i finished the rest ofthe series later that evening... But unfortunately I already knew about that spoiler. Although, once I got to episode 14, I kept getting more and more depressed because I knew what was coming. So although it wasn't a shocking moment for me, I was still really sad... still sad. What did you think of the other alphabet letters that came after episode 25?

miss_hopefulsnail

What did you think of ep 25? I'm assuming you've gotten to that episode by now lol

Kryptic

So, when it was first said that this was the show that won the poll, I was bummed. I had saw the first episode, and though I thought it was interesting, I thought it was too dark for me. However, I love the Crew at Blind Wave and have been venturing to watch more and more of their content. So after many months of not seeing the first episode, I decided to give Death Note another try. And I have to say... I'M SORRY FOR EVERYTHING I SAID! I TAKE IT ALL BACK! I'M IN LOVE! THIS IS THE BEST CHESS GAME EVER! After being on an embarrassing, hour after hour binging session, I am now on episode 22. The only reason I had to stop was because it is now after 2 a.m. and I have to be up in 4 hours. But I just couldn't get enough! Forgive me Death Note fans - for I knew not what I was saying. But now I have seen the light... Pun intended :)

miss_hopefulsnail

Now you know why people were telling you to have chips out for this episode.

Of Butterflies and Books

Ahh see I figured it must have been some kind of green tea ice cream he was eating but i had no idea for sure

Lailonniel-EleneiRose

ill take a potato chip.. AND EAT IT!

niklas karlsson

Yeah, he’s not trying to get away with it, he’s not a vigilante, he’s a murderer and he wants to get rid of anyone in his way

Alex Morelli

Detective calvin has really lost his touch since game of thrones.

Rawwk

I love the chip scene. Glad I could see the crew's reaction to it

Subira

He was playing on Calvin’s dyslexics

Mavengoose Unlimited

Chip was Epic lolol. Ice cream would likely be Macha ice Cream. Really good Green Tea type :)

Kristy

I was thinking that during this conversation. I’ve read the manga and watched the anime and I always thought it didn't make sense how Light made those "mistakes", but on this watch I'm understanding that Light was doing it to get L to come out thinking he's got him, which would be the only change Light would have of getting close to him to try to kill him.

Alexander A

It's Japan, their courts are VERY different. In adversarial systems like ours, the lawyers question the witnesses, a jury decides factual questions (did he do it), and a judge decides procedural questions (is the lawyer allowed to ask that question, what should the sentence be). Japan has an inquisitorial system. Prosecution and defense lawyers present evidence and summon witnesses, the judge(s) questions both lawyers and the witnesses, and the judges decide both procedural AND factual questions. There is no jury. Add in that Japanese courts HEAVILY favors the prosecution (they have over a 99% conviction rate, that's UNHEARD OF in actually fair trials), and yeah, Kira's getting hanged. (Oh yeah, Japan still has hanging.) (And if this all sounds familiar, yeah--the Phoenix Wright games are social satire based on how unfair the real Japanese court system is. The whole jury thing in the fourth game? That's a real ongoing political controversy in Japan.)

Yep, there were four released in Japan. Death Note and Death Note: The Last Name, both released in 2006, follow basically the same story as the manga with some major changes in the second one. Then a sequel focusing on L, called L: Change the World in 2008; and another sequel set 10 years later and involving a three-way battle between Light's dad's successor, L's successor, and a Kira-worshipping cyberterrorist, called Death Note: Light up the New World, that came out about a year ago. The first one is the one I'm talking about. Just called Death Note, but came out in 2006.

Jen A. Blue

L is in fact in his early to mid twenties, while Light is 17.

Dwain Kowalske

I’ll download my favorite porn video, AND DELETE IT!!

Dwain Kowalske

ILL TAKE SOME TURKEY *breathes heavily* AND RE-HEAT IT!

GoldArthur

Light and L are both the same age if I remember correctly.

Eric Keatts

Here's a question for you guys from something you brought up. If you were jury members of a trial that brings this young teen in and accuses him of being Kira. All they present to you is good circumstantial evidence of what we've seen. Murders happen from this time to this time, our detective was investigating him, he was seen talking to the LA detective, etc. and even since we've arrested him the murders have stopped. Would you be able to declare him guilty?

Alexander A

wait first live action movie? there was one before the netflix one?

NaotoPlays (Gwen)

ILL TAKE A POTATO CHIP AND EAT IT!

Allison

There it is. The second-most-epic chip eating ever filmed. Yes, that's right, second. There's an EVEN BETTER chip-eating moment in the first live-action Death Note movie.

Jen A. Blue

the 64 cameras is the number of cameras in Light's room, Ryuk says "there sure are a lot of cameras in this ROOM, I counted 64 in total."

Bryan Cunningham

dang aron its ep8 you still cant remember name XD

Boyd Outlaw

But remember, Light WANTS to get close to L so that he can meet him in person and try to kill him. That's why he's baiting L. Remember the episode when Light wanted L to know that he has access to classified police information? He did that to narrow it down on purpose.

Krystal

The slow pan in on Eric at the end had me cracking up.

IrishNexus

In anime there are sometimes Japanese words/sentences that are too long or too short to the their English counterpart so the English writers have to come up with words/sentences that match the animations of the lip movements (that still has something to do with the scene, but in some rare cases they extend or shorten the animation. Only when they're standing still whilst talking. This is why a lot of people prefer Sub to Dub because they have to change some words, but there are instances where the Subs aren't the proper translations considering each when translating from one language to another there are words from one that has no counterpart in the other. This is because of the culture differences.

Dultan

Light Yagami is quite probably my most hated anime character.

Dale Denton

Mother's Basement did a critical analysis of the chip scene. The main take away, is that L is smarter than Light. By a lot.

Ryan Kosier

You guys dont even know...you are equivalent to a summer child!

Vasiliu Vlad

lmao. I'm so glad you guys got to experience that chip moment. its hilarious

Kris

LMAO

Chase Robert Dunn
