There are many instances where The Doctor runs into a future incarnation or incarnations of himself and depending on the nature of the events, it's usually the most senior version of himself that retains memories of the encounters like the one here. Typically the younger version or versions of himself "can't retain the information" supposedly due to how the time stream sync up. They will mention this is in a future adventure, but of course, timey wimey wibbly wobbly stuff means no Doctor Who rule is ever absolute.
