This is one of the few time where Moffat's quirks about The Doctor being the greatest and is love obsession worked for me. And that's because it was subverted. The enemies of the doctor were just waiting for the box to be open rather than be easy pawns and Rory plea of love end up being a tragedy because he shoots Amy. This season might be my favorite of Moffat because you get the great writing but still managed by a fear of going to far or searching their bearing. I dread the disapearing of that restraint in the future. Great episode.

Your comments about observing all the stars disappearing are a bit too literal. The concept they are trying to show is everything else winking about of existence like Rory did. They vanish instantly because they never existed.

This is, IMO, the second-best finale of the series, and one of the best cliffhangers. The sun can't supernova, it's too small. But if it somehow did, the radiation front of the explosion would expand at the speed of light, but the actual blast would follow behind a little slower, because matter can't move that fast. So the radiation would sterilize the Earth in eight minutes, and then shortly after the blast would vaporize what was left.
