Melron Doctor Who 11x4 Poll!
Added 2018-10-31 01:34:42 +0000 UTCDo you feel the new direction this season is taking is on track with the rest of the show or do you think something is missing?

those episodes are pretty meh tbh, aside from midnight which was one shot episode anyway.

2018-11-07 19:28:44 +0000 UTCwhat a weird reason to stop watching something
Nick Earl
2018-11-07 19:27:41 +0000 UTCthey need to go back to the days when doctor who was amazing, Russel t Davies like midnight and waters of mars, and the next doctor Christmas special!!
2018-11-05 02:15:00 +0000 UTCNo longer feels like doctor who but a kind of spin off which isn’t to say it’s bad because I am liking it so far but it feels like each episode is intertwined with one another where as doctor who normally has a freak of the week set up
Jamie Smith
2018-11-01 18:08:42 +0000 UTCThe more the season goes on, the more the 'something is missing' feeling inflates. I feel like the villains and the Doctors intensity are lacking and the past episode particularly highlighted some of these issues. (Plus there was a lot of odd story choices that episode. Though Graham is awesome.)

2018-11-01 13:53:26 +0000 UTCI think it lacks the charm of the previous seasons, the whimsy, and i just miss the doctor being cocky and confident and ridiculous, 13 feels a lot less assured (the first scene where they say goodbye) and a lot less alien...which is okay just she just hasn't made an much of impression (yet)
Stefanniko
2018-11-01 02:53:46 +0000 UTCI think the problem is that the doctor just hasn't had as much of an active role in her stories (bar episode 1) and that we're just waiting for an opportunity for the doctor to shine.

2018-10-31 21:21:54 +0000 UTCThe fact that it's so different is exactly why it still feels like Doctor Who. The show is all about change and every era has been quite drastically different to the one that preceded it. I make no apologies for being a big Moffat era fan, so this new series was never going to click with me immediately, but so far I'm happy to say that I'm enjoying each episode more as the weeks go by, even if that wild spark of wit and imagination has been somewhat muted.

2018-10-31 21:10:04 +0000 UTCI am in total agreement. Chibnall is a terrible writer, but Jodie, so far, has been excellent, and she is keeping me watching
Jon Dub
2018-10-31 20:31:19 +0000 UTCSo far the writing lacks the same snap of earlier seasons. Still watching, though.

2018-10-31 20:08:03 +0000 UTCI dislike Chibnall as a writer, and he’s made a lot of bold decisions that I don’t think he has the chops to follow up on. That being said I feel like Jodie is nailing the Doctor and that’s enough for me to keep watching.
Bryan Matola
2018-10-31 19:02:40 +0000 UTCIt's just bland to me, I don't recognise the show as Doctor Who. It's not an unwillingness to accept change either, I love change in Who. I just don't think Chibnall has the chops for it, his DW has always been lacklustre.
Michael Harrop
2018-10-31 17:47:14 +0000 UTCThey're still finding their feet. Every showrunner and cast has to deal with that. But if they don't make some changes, doctor who can't evolve.

2018-10-31 17:42:03 +0000 UTClove it, still miss Murray Golds music though :(

2018-10-31 17:33:13 +0000 UTCSo far this is shaping up to be the best series since Series 6, in my view.

2018-10-31 17:04:25 +0000 UTCI feel there is something missing. There is definitely the quirkiness and fun and excitement but i really want to see this doctor get truly upset or angry, i also feel maybe we could have some references to past doctors which may be cool or old villains not seen before in new who, maybe even to bring back the daleks or the cybermen. Idk could just be me struggling to let go of the past era lol

2018-10-31 16:25:54 +0000 UTCI didn't particularly like the stories Chibnall wrote for the show before he took over as show runner, and so far I've seen nothing to change my opinion. They all seem so slow to me, as if they're just waiting for something to happen. Then, when the climax comes, it's over so quickly and we're done. I think Jodie is ok, though I still can't see her as the Doctor yet. Also, I can't help but think that three companions are too many - look at the beginning of the Fifth Doctor's reign, with Adric, Tegan and Nyssa there were too many aboard the TARDIS and the characters were woefully underused and underdeveloped. That was in the time of 4x25 minute episodes per story, now we have 1x50minute stories - can't see how characters can develop meaningfully and stories develop in such a limited timespan. I'm still watching... so far, but perhaps not for much longer, and that would be very sad, as I first started travelling with the Doctor in 1979.

2018-10-31 15:55:12 +0000 UTCIt feels different hard to put my finger on, not great villains is up there maybe i just need a to see 13 deal with a more classic villain as none of the new ones had made any kind of impact. I keep feeling like they alot of the stories are half done set up interesting characters but not really following through on their arc. hopefully second half of the season will sort this problem. I hope Krasko comes back i like the idea of a villain who can't use overt violence and has to out-think the doctor (even if his character is half formed at the moment) Also shot in the dark. Krasko has a real Time Agent vibe but maybe thats me just wanting to know more about the Time Agency since we haven't heard much since season 1 of nu-who.
2018-10-31 15:45:48 +0000 UTCPlots are useless artifice. I want emotional heft and ideas of thematic substance. Moffat always delivered that in spades. We seem to have reverted to bad old days of RTD.
Nick Earl
2018-10-31 15:42:33 +0000 UTCIt's Doctor Who but not to my tastes. Very generic so far.
Hugh Burke
2018-10-31 15:22:57 +0000 UTCI feel like it's missing a few things. The conclusions to episodes need some working on. The villains aren't exactly memorable. And there's no arc, seemingly. I feel like unless there's an actual season long story it will be a rather forgettable season, with nothing to hold it together. But I DO like it, at the same time. It's still Doctor Who.
2018-10-31 15:22:24 +0000 UTCbit rubbish options guys - what about "it's different, but I like it"? or even "it's different, but I like it better than the previous style"?
Andrew
2018-10-31 14:30:33 +0000 UTCI don't understand those people who says it doesn't feel like Doctor Who the show changes every few years with The Doctor and show runner. The Third Doctors era was different from The Fourth Doctors or The Tenth Doctor was different to The Eleventh
I have no name
2018-10-31 14:28:00 +0000 UTCI believe that the actress can now do everything that I want the doctor to do, the issue is that Jodie most of the time doesn’t feel like she’s acting as her own doctor, it feels like she’s a caricature of previous doctors, it seems like they are doing regeneration psychosis still having it last longer than usual. Also the writing needs to improve a bit Because I’m fairly sure leaving spiders trapped in a room to eventually die is a worse death than gun shot, as well as suffocation. The doctor should’ve found a home for these spiders off earth
Dan Banks
2018-10-31 14:02:16 +0000 UTCIt does feel different... can't quite identify what that difference is - but i'm really enjoying it either way!

@WebSquirrel
2018-10-31 12:06:35 +0000 UTCHonestly I think the only thing missing is good conclusions to episodes so far but thats something you have to expect when chibnall is writing. All the previous episodes he's written have been "42", the silurian 2 parter from s5, "dinos om a spaceship", "the power of three" (cube episode) and series 1 of torchwood (head writer), all of which have had lacklustre ending usually fixed with the doctor waving his sonic, unexplained energy readings, offscreen solutions or unresolved threads. Surprised at how much i like the new cast though especially graham, weird seeing him on the chase now 😂

2018-10-31 11:12:37 +0000 UTCNew Earth was pretty shit, but I agree that David and Matt, hell even Peter had a stronger start than Jodie.
Azmat Mahmood
2018-10-31 10:03:52 +0000 UTCThis episode for sure has felt the most Doctor Who-ey of the season
Rantingisalwaysfun
2018-10-31 10:03:37 +0000 UTCThis episode for me felt like a Doctor Who episode more than any so far this season. Definitely liking this season a lot.

2018-10-31 05:11:09 +0000 UTCI had come to hate Moffat's writing and his plots - they always seems overworked and overcomplicated. I'm still getting used to this new writer's style and the villains/antagonists he creates, but the joy of Who is that the whole show regenerates - not just the doctor. I'm keeping an open mind

2018-10-31 04:16:17 +0000 UTCThe night this aired, an unusually large spider scuttled towards me as I was doing the dishes. It was only an inch and a half, but fast and came right at me. It was like having the power go out while watching Silence in the Library.
Fajen Thygia
2018-10-31 03:55:16 +0000 UTCHey there is only 10 episodes toal this series. Also dont expect an arc or any past villians anytime soon according to chibnall
chad welsh
2018-10-31 03:52:36 +0000 UTCI'm liking this Who more than before. The show had been suffocating under the weight of ten seasons. It needed an actual fresh start.
Fajen Thygia
2018-10-31 03:51:57 +0000 UTCTo me it feels like a good mix of New Who with Classic Who
Kevin Bartelen
2018-10-31 03:48:24 +0000 UTCI like the series so far for the most part. Still waiting for that chill inducing villain like the Daleks or Cybermen.
Gezno
2018-10-31 03:35:18 +0000 UTCWhile Moffat went to far for me in making the doctor the greatest I do think we are missing on the doctor extremely convoluted cleverness and epic resolution. Doctor who is both fun and epic. We are lacking the epic. Where's the doctor using kitchen ustensils to make a device that base on the notes of the lab will channel the chemical waste and shrink the spiders while also threatnening non-Trump to never fire a gun again if he hopes to be president.
Doby Greg
2018-10-31 03:29:03 +0000 UTCThis was the only episode I didn't like very much. The doctor was always against guns and killing but this time she seems a lot more than usual.
John Ramirez
2018-10-31 03:23:18 +0000 UTCSomething is missing for me, definitely, but I wouldn't blame it on the cast. I actually love Jodie a lot more than I expected to, and the companions are all pretty good too. The problem for me is that the writing has been a bit of a flop so far. There's constant plot holes, consistently uninteresting, one-dimensional villains, and Chris Chibnall seems incapable of writing a proper ending to his stories, it always just stops suddenly because the bad guys get teleported away or locked in some convenient room or something. I enjoy it enough to keep coming back every week - for now, at least - but it's desperately missing the sort of magnitude and weight that I've come to expect from Doctor Who.
Wolf6120
2018-10-31 03:10:00 +0000 UTCLike if you asked if this doctor had been through all of the trauma and emotions the previous doctors have I would say no for now. It feels like a different time lord more than anything but I’m excited to see this Doctor’s journey
Gavin Hardiman
2018-10-31 02:53:41 +0000 UTCIt's taken a bit longer than I would've liked, but the last two episodes have felt like Doctor Who to me.
Evan!!
2018-10-31 02:44:26 +0000 UTCIt also felt different after Moffat took over in season 5, I’ve liked both changes.
Liam Skoda
2018-10-31 02:37:13 +0000 UTCNow I wouldnt have answered differently than I did, but it seems to me the choices are: Its Average, it sucks a little, it sucks completely. They seem a bit biased. Where is the answer for the folks who like this better than before.
Xen Martyrzade
2018-10-31 02:14:20 +0000 UTCEvery season has been different throughout the history of the show. 1973 was vastly different to the original 1963, which is a world away from 1983. Every new show runner, production team and cast bring new and different elements to the show. But at its core the show has the same heart and spirit.
Lloyd B
2018-10-31 02:03:23 +0000 UTCThe villains/monsters have been very weak so far imo. The white supremacist Krasko and some giant spiders? Yawn. I'd honestly rather have another Dalek or Cyberman story at this point. I hope Chib is saving the best till last because its been poor so far.
Monty Magpie
2018-10-31 01:58:40 +0000 UTCI like it.
StevenBrown
2018-10-31 01:55:27 +0000 UTCThis episode wasn’t my favorite... but overall I’m loving the new Doctor, her companions and the new feel of the show.
Sarah Case
2018-10-31 01:53:40 +0000 UTCI am enjoying this new era very much. It’s different, just like Moffat’s and RTD, but it still feels like Doctor Who to me, just less hero-y and more classical.
Cody Enos
2018-10-31 01:53:10 +0000 UTCI can’t be the only one who isn’t enjoying the season so far. I like the foundation they’ve built and the characters have potential, but there’s no way you can tell me the stories have been entertaining. What great villains have we had? What amazing doctor or companion moments have we had? Its just been so dead so far. And don’t anyone dare use the excuse that they’ve only just began. In matts first season, we’ve had him meet Amy and Rory, Amy’s saved the beast in the beat below, they’ve had the Dalek episode and then reunited with river song and ended with the “one thing you never put in a trap”. With tennant we had the “no second chances” moment. His reunion with Sarah Jane and the werewolf+new earth episode. There’s no way you can tell me that this season has been anyway as close to the other doctors first 4 Eps.
2018-10-31 01:48:22 +0000 UTCIt's a hard question because the show is about change, and each era should feel different from the last. But to me, while it's certainly different, it's still recognizable as Doctor Who.
Nathan Mortenson
2018-10-31 01:46:50 +0000 UTCIt dosent feel like doctor who only in its camera work. I mean doctor who has allways been a kinda campy show and while the modern area is more serious than classic who it still keeps that campy atmosphere. This new series is great but im still just not used to the new visual language being used. Shits more cenimatic thatn the doctor who movie some times
Tilted Krow
2018-10-31 01:39:56 +0000 UTCFor a long time it didn't feel like the Doctor Who I loves watching in the RTD era. Now it feels like it's going back to that and I'm finally excited to watch it again.
2018-10-31 01:39:53 +0000 UTCIn my opinion, it's still missing some of the intense-ness in the action scenes. I don't feel any worry for the characters. I still really liked the episode though!
SpeedyCat19
2018-10-31 01:38:13 +0000 UTCIt's 100% still Doctor Who for me, but it's also taking a very different approach, so in a way you could view it as a new show!
