The 50 people left was a translation error. It should have said examiners were told to aim for having 50 people left after round 2.

2019-03-17 18:34:22 +0000 UTCKurapika is arguably the one with the best analytical skills there and she couldn't figure out how to pass the 1st phase 2 exam. It was just a way to show us how little respect the examinees has for the gourmet hunter craft.

No one thinks to try to actually prepare the pig differently despite seeing several other people fail. Then again everyone just jumped the mountain side without a second thought. It feels odd to me because in later parts of the story certain characters seem to over analyze everything just gave this challenge no thought at all.

In other words, you're just taking the fact that they are hunters for granted. They wouldn't be doing 10% of the shit they participate in if they didn't have the title.

2019-03-16 22:29:07 +0000 UTCThe second exam the failures and deaths were more due to the participants own failings than the first exam where they got tricked or were victims of a deadly forest swamp. I mean how many people had to fail before one person thought maybe I should do more than just burn a whole pig’s body? The makeup exam a bunch of these idiots just jumped down the mountainside without even thinking to see how long it takes for the updraft to happen or think of those webs could support all their weight. Don’t get me wrong it sucks people died. All the participants showed a lack of forethought in this phase that becomes odd later on when see certain ones are more thoughtful in their approach.

This is a world where there are gangsters that limit in the trillions, and assassins are treated like celebrities. It's overall a VERY dangerous world to live in.
