Heavenly Demonic Emperor

Not Season 3, it's a movie

One of the best comments ive seen for Code Geass. As a person who very often arguments over the alive and death part can also deep down feel like people can make up what the ending was for them. I will always be on the side that he did sacrifice his life and really is dead because that is what makes him a great character for me. his speeches like "The only ones who should kill, are those who are prepared to be killed" and how he cared for his friends and sister deep down even though he was often an anti-hero, dont think his character would work with him faking his death making and Suzaku bear the mask of the one who killed his first love like that for the rest of his life, and then leave with CC to have a nice life. does not fitt the character that my head have buildt up. And as much as i like the character Lelouch him being alive would not make the ending as satisfactory for me.

Charlie Henriksson

What youre refering to are a fan made video with really poor quality that was never real. the sub version never showed Drivers face as lelouch

Charlie Henriksson

Following along with these reactions has been an amazing experience, and I'm grateful to the Crew for doing the show justice by giving it the attention it requires and deserves. Watching week to week may make the flaws of Code Geass more apparent, but I've realized that those flaws only make me love the show more.

I could not hold back the tears this time.

Sandro Sliske

watch the OVA's!!!

Zaros

No. No he wasn't.

CK12341

THIS IS the breaking bad of anime!

Jesse rosado

Thank you so much Blind Wave!!!

The debate between whether or not Lelouch died has been going on for a long time. However the creator/writer for the series has confirmed that Lelouch did indeed die at the end of season 2. They recently made a season 3 and explained that season 3 doesn't follow the cannon of the first series. Instead it follows the story of the 3 recap movies they made. In that "universe" Lelouch lived and other changes happened, but in the main series he did indeed die. It was their way of having their cake and eating it too. A lot of people loved the idea that Lelouch secretly lived and a lot of them hated it, so this seems to be the compromise.

"Memorize this! Memorize Jeremiah Gottwald! Commit it to memory, because that's the memorable name of the man who has defeated you!" Can we all agree that Orange Boy is best girl, now?

Now that I've gotten rid of that giant spec of dust in my eye that clouded my vision during the entire second half of the episode, I guess I can talk about it. It's been a while since I wrote an essay comment, but you gotta get back into practice at some point. The thing is, Code Geass is a flawed show. But what elevates it for me, as Calvin put it: It's very much larger than life. It has flaws (I'd say, like Eric, the fanservice, the pacing and the obvious lack of forethought and plot-planning), but when it manages to be good, it's great. And when it's at it's best, it's at the end, and in a way, that's what mattered the most. It leaves one hell of an impression. This show came out in 2006-07, two years are said to have spawned a lot of modern classics, such as Death Note. And among those were Code Geass, which despite its flaws has stood the test of time. Which is because of those parts that are really great. And among those great parts, I first and foremost thing of Lelouch. His character, his arc, and the performances (both original and dub) is some of the greatest. There's a reason he still, after more than ten years of other anime, manages to snatch a space in the "Top 10 best anime characters" lists, if not top it on occasion, both in Japan and internationally. Personally, him and the other characters is one of the major reasons I love this anime. Because I do, I love it to bits. It frustrates me to no end, because I can see so many flaws, but despite that I love it. And you guys were definitely part of bringing back my love for the show! I hadn't rewatched in ages and then it was on a poll and I started and I realised that despite my complicated feelings about it, I loved it. And I'd missed it. Moving on. What a reaction. What a reaction series! It's been a year and it's been amazing to follow you all as you grew more invested in the show, slowly, and its characters - even when the art style didn't work for some of you (I enjoy it, but then again, CLAMP did the character design, and I'm a CLAMP girl at heart, even if I think Cardcaptor Sakura might be the only time their artstyle has really worked in animation). And hey, you even made me enjoy some of the fanservice. It's definitely been a reaction series I've looked forward to every week. It is a show that keeps you on your toes, goes unexpected ways, and even when it does the expected it manages to get you to feel all the feels and love the execution. Calvin's love for the show, Eric's confused faces and his satisfaction when the show managed to pull him back in again, Rick's anime commentary, Shane and Aaron's love for their specific characters - it has all lead to laughs and smiles (and some tears). I think it's safe to say that despite its ups and downs the show stuck the landing, and it's one of my favorite endings ever. Personally I believe that in this version of the story, Lelouch truly did sacrifice himself, and he's dead - I'm usually more for happy endings, but for this show, I think it's what fits the best - but I also love that it's open to interpretation. And besides, I love a good fanfic exploring the alternative. I could talk about Code Geass forever. It's art, character arcs, symbolism. I have in fact talked about the CLAMP art works (a lot appear in the endings of the show) at great length in the discord - because if no one else is going to make obnoxious art symbolism interpretations when it's RIGHT THERE then I might as well (and they give me more to work with than the show itself). I could go on about all of that, but then this comment would turn into an actual essay. At the end, I suppose I just wanted to say that no matter what comes out in terms of movies, OVAs, tie-in mangas - this is what Code Geass is for me, and it's an ending that stayed with me, and I hope you let this ending settle in for you guys as well. I think people can watch all the other material and make their own opinion on that stuff, that's fine. But to me there's something special about this two season show, an anime original, that they had no idea what they were doing with, came out of nowhere, that's very rough around the edges, but somewhere, it made a bit of a gem. At least to me. Thanks for this year, and a special shoutout to Top Screen for some amazing editing all throughout, and a final heartbreaking thumbnail. Looking forward to what comes next.

JojoInSpace

One of my fav anime endings of all time, alongside Cowboy Bebop and FMA 2004. But I dislike the CG movies on the sole point of what they did with Shirley (and also reducing Kallen's importance).

dashokeypokey

Yeah, I agree

Woodsie89

HE WAS DRIVING THE CART !

Is there anyway the crew could react to the ending of the sub version? I ask this as a guy who prefers the dub. I'm just asking for the end scene, with the driver. Eric was really onto something. Blease

"MEMORIZE THIS!"

Dante1025

If the show had done away with the emperor parts, or expanded on them, it would’ve made the show much improved. The Marianne/emperor stuff feels very rushed and confusing, and if they weren’t gonna take the time to do it thoroughly they should’ve just had schneizel kill the emperor to set him us as the show’s next big bad

Jcw490

I agree. On first watching, especially if you binge it, it is very impactful and can leave a really good impression. Watching week to week or with hind sight after watching many more anime, the flaws are more evident (many I think stemming from it being an anime first, without a manga to have fleshed out the story cohesively first). However, I definitely think some of the best parts of the show compare well to the best parts of any other anime.

Jcw490

I've probably rewatched this entire series at least 20-30 times and I've never watched the last episode without tearing up and this time wasn't any different. This is still my all time favorite anime, even though every time I see it, it seems I notice a new issue with it. This ending has always felt like it resonated in me ever since it first aired and I've never seen a better one.

Disordia

To confirm, it's open ended. So you cannot say he is for certain.

Nick R

It came out in English. AMC and Regal Cinemas had a "three day event" in the beginning of May. The first day was the film with subtitles and the next two days were with a full Dub. They also gave out neat little postcards that said Lelouch of the Resurrection and had a painting of Zero. I took my 13 yr old daughter to see it, as I showed Geass to her last year and it became one of her favorites

After joining Lelouch, he accepted that nickname. Remember he says "orange is the name of my loyalty?" By being "orange" and accepting that punishment, he's honoring Lelouch and his sacrifice.

And the trilogy of recap movies exist to set up a new ONGOING continuity (supposedly 10 years worth of new content)....starting with movie 4 LELOUCH OF THE RESURRECTION

The movie trilogy recaps the story with minor changes (for timing....like Shirley's story was cut and she's therefore alive).

Loved going through this journey again with you guys. All the times I watched it before were on my own and watching your videos made it feel like I was watching it with friends. Keep up the great work!

Calvin enjoying every aspect of the show and relating t to the thin tall ppl is adorable..... definitely a better show on a second view, the ending still hurts and hits hard.....a lot of complexity and gray characters and a great example of power corrupts and the struggle to be free .....

Sahar

Also does anyone know how to check?

Doofus

Do we know which show won the poll?

abhi

That's an excellent way to describe the movies in conjunction to the show. Star Wars comparison for the win!

Tina L

im very happy about that too. Always is a big thing when discussing the ending of this show.

Kara59

I'm really glad that Aaron started connecting the dots for the most famous fan theory for a proper ending discussion. I was worried that the possibility of it would go right over their heads. If they had noticed the speck of black hair on the cart driver and Nunnally's visions going way beyond her usual lie detector powers somehow seeing the shots of them being in Cs world, that'd have really spiced things up, but I'm happy with what we've got.

Dasher

Loved s1. Not a fan of s2. But the ending is great. Especially when you take it on the level of he isn't doing the martyr thing for the world but just for his sister. Usually I don't buy the whole focus your energy on me thing. But in the way they do it works. It complete Suzaku's arc of wanting to die but not being able to. It gives Lelouch the punishment he thinks it deserves. Gives the world to Nunally kindness. It neatly ties to their kid self with Lelouch has the one willing to do the ugly things, Nunally the kind one and Suzaku trying to be the protector. I choose that Lelouch is dead but I think the show leaves it open enough.Endings are hard and I think the show nails it.

Doby Greg

in season 1 Jeremiah was threatened to being demoted to the orange fields after releasing Suzaku. Funny how things come around for him.

Edwin Gonzalez

God I love this ending. Code Geass sometimes meanders along the way, but it sticks the landing so damn hard. It's one of my favorite endings to anything. Eric - "Is Lelouch the cart driver?" hahaha welcome to when Code Geass first aired.

Chinese Cartoons

Great ending to a 7/10 anime

Herberderber

I'm not sure if you guys still read the comments or not after watching the anime, but the films are a alternative timeline, and there is I believe 3 films that follow that timeline right now with a new one that was already released in theaters in Japan, But has yet to come out in english. That film is title lelouch of the ressurection set after the events of the movies. They have also announced recently that they have plans for at least 10 years worth of code geass content. Also think of the movies and the anime like dragon ball gt is to dragon ball super.

Now that I've watched it the second time with you guys. Code Geass isn't as perfect I once thought it was in college. Especially with all of the school/fanservice shenanigans. But, regardless, the ending is still one of the best endings in all of anime. And still a very solid show. Glad y'all liked it. 8D

John FD Lobrano

To confirm, Lelouch is very much dead.

BFldyq

Aaron was high on something in that discussion lol. His theories were out of left field

Derek H

There's also the Akito the Exiled movies they can watch.

Subaru130

2 months to rule the world. What do you think Lelouch did in that time?

Swordhunter

While I would love for them to watch the movie they should know that it is different from the show as it follows the recap movies. So in a way its like star wars canon before the new movies it is canon but all so not.

HomebrewHavenTTV

You guys should react to the movie that takes place after this.

VanguardDuelist

One of if not the best endings in anime. Plans for the movies?

Swordhunter

Yeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!🤯

CosmicRays

My heart is not ready.
