What Is Your Preferred Borough Size?

As LIMINA extends its reach across the multiverse in search of unique locales teeming with postal possibilities, our board of directors has begun to reflect on the the criteria we use to prioritize partner realms. Some among our leadership enjoy plundering sprawling metropolises, while others prefer narrower, more focused settings.

We have to decided to yet again open up the floor to you. When exploring our boroughs, what is your preferred size in terms of number of releases? Please keep in mind that this will factor into both the number of maps from which a city is built as well as the total length of its associated borough guide and collection of music. More releases = bigger total map, longer borough guide, more tunes, and (of course!) fewer total boroughs released per year.

We are already hard at work on the borough that will succeed Gruuk Jit'Jit (as well as the goblin city's Definitive Edition release), but we would love to make plans for future boroughs with your input in mind.

I think 4 is the sweet spot to get a wider variety of maps throughout the year :D *Cries in Greek City losing last poll*

Alex

4 as the most common, then a 6 release as a treat would be great. Maybe a 9 release once or twice a year for something special (I don't know how much work these are our the schedule off the top of my head)

Mirriky

I'd be happy with anything between 4-6. Don't have strong takes against 8 or more though

Ogo Sylla

I think there's some consensus here that SOME small cities is good. From these results, I think we'll prioritize that sweet spot of 4 releases, with the occasional bigger and the occasional much smaller city thrown in there.

Borough Bound

I'm definitely feeling "big city fatigue" after those two. I really love them but now I need some smaller 2-post or 4-post cities/towns/outposts. (As other people have mentioned.)

Chris Lontok

I wouldn’t mind a two or three-release set every now and then, maybe for smaller-population locales, like military outposts, hunting lodges or caravan rest stops.

R.Foxblood

A fixed/alternating cadence like 4-4-8 would be fantastic.

Brandon G

I prefer the depth of exploration/depth involved in the more numerous releases, but I don't prefer that many releases. (I like the definitive releases more.) I'm also more in favor of the adventure hooks versus written adventures because I never use a written one, but that's very much a personal preference.

Nicholas Campbell

I voted 4, but I agree with the others that variety is valuable. Also, would love to see more one and done maps! They are great for one shots or as temp stops while traveling to larger destinations.

Michael Cardenas

Yeah, doing really small maps is tough. Realistically, there's NO city that's 125 feet wide. That said, we know some folks still like the smaller maps!

Borough Bound

I'm less excited about the one-shots, though we've only had the one

CH

That's definitely something that's on our mind! We tried to offer a bunch of more familiar variants for Gruuk Jit'Jit so that people feel like there's SOMETHING they can fit into non-dieselpunk campaigns. Plus, I don't think we'd ever have done such a long Flying Steampunk city if we hadn't run the poll beforehand. "City fatigue" is definitely a problem though, especially when you're sitting around for months waiting for a new town start that you can actually use.

Borough Bound

I think 4 is the sweet spot but agree with everyone else that the bigger ones, especially the high-concept ones like Gruuk Jit'Jit, are worth luxuriating in

CH

I don't know if I'm the only one but I feel like a lot of releases (5+) is less fun when it's a really specific set of maps that aren't able to be repurposed. The floating city stuff is just so specific I know I'll probably never find a way to use them in my home games.

Liam R.

I uh...just want to vote for all of them? I like the massive ones, I like the midsized ones. I wish Belciennes was self-contained and had its own borders. The map feels like it's connected to other stuff that isn't present.

This Mind of Mine

I'm with the others - love the huge cities, 4 releases feels like a sweet spots, but I also have a place for the one shots.

Roger Robar

Four releases feels like the sweet spot, but I also like the larger maps and the occasional single release.

Sam Kahle

That has more or less been our strategy thus far. Muc-Mhara back-to-back with Gruuk Jit'Jit was the first time we did two longer boroughs in a row.

Borough Bound

I like the four parts the most but also enjoy occasional one shots and larger six to eight part cities. Maybe two four parters and then throw in a mix-in?
