Omg Senor Pinks backstory still get's me! The tears it's so sad and heartbreaking but the small simple joy of his wife's smile gives him is precious!

This whole fight felt different, and it ending with Franky calling him brother, wiping his tears, and asking to share a drink is such a special moment in this series and made Franky one of my favorite Straw Hats. Lastly, Senor Pink's back story hits home for me and I think for any husband. Wouldn't we all do anything to see our wife smile one more time?

But he truly loved his wife and son. And this is where my opinion differs - I doubt that he would have been able to leave Mingo's family even if he had wanted to.

Dressing up as a baby after our baby died and you weren’t there because you were lying to me would simply make me hate you more. I know people say that’s how he deals with grief but hanging around a bunch of women who do nothing but fawn over him all day isn’t selling the whole grief thing for me. I’m not buying it. The only person I feel bad for is the wife.

Then Oda gives you emotional backstory and you can't help but feel for him. Gives you a lesson on don't judge a book by it's cover.

If I remember correctly, Oda originally wasn’t going to include his backstory, but his editor was so moved after hearing it that he begged him to add it! I can totally see Oda writing a full novel just filled with character backstories. For writers, even if a backstory never makes it onto the page, it still shapes how a character thinks and acts - Oda clearly gets that so I'm sure he has one for every character in the story. I’ll post an SBS for you guys where a fan pokes fun at Señor Pink and Oda responds - it's such a classic moment, and I think it’s what really sealed this backstory into One Piece history. This arc is packed with beautiful, emotional backstories for secondary characters: Rebecca and Kyros, Law and Corazon, Doflamingo, Baby 5 (hers was so short but still hit me hard!), and of course Señor Pink. Just amazing. Who would’ve thought that a character drawn to be silly, who made us laugh with his over-the-top, ridiculous outfit, would end up having such a deep and emotional reason behind it? That’s Oda for you, smacking us with feels while reminding us never to judge a book by its cover.

And how he still wears the outfit in memory of the ones he lost. It's incredible what Oda can do with only a few episodes to completely change the view of a character who comes off as something absurd into someone so deep and caring
