This show is great, even manages some of us to get emotional for a characters like Bjorn, who was involved in Thors death, did other unspeakable things to lots of villages(people), and yet in these eps... somehow his final moments pulls at the heart strings... this show is a confusing rollercoaster of emotions 🥲

2025-06-20 16:32:34 +0000 UTCOne of the things I really appreciate from this show is how they are consistent with time, so it's visible that the characters are aging, Askeladd from ep2 when compared to these episodes looks...old, and the same with Thorfinn and Leif. Thorfinn doesn't recognize Leif at first since it's been 10 or 11 years since they last saw each other and... Leif looks really old. Same with Leif, since time passed he didn't recognize Thorfinn at first untill he heard his name mentioned. Those type of details add depth to this already great story. The score, animation, storytelling have been great overall, and agree with y'all, especially these last few episodes have been super, they hit different! And it just goes up from here !

2025-06-20 16:20:13 +0000 UTCAskeladd is such an interesting character because he’s not really what you’d call “honorable,” but that’s exactly why he stands out. He’s smart, tragic, and super complex. Even when he wins, it doesn’t feel like a win. You can tell he’s constantly battling himself inside. At one point, he even tells Canute, “I’m just a Viking.” And that line hits hard, because deep down, he hates that part of himself. He sees himself as a warrior and a Dane, but those are the very things he resents. The messed-up part is that to protect Wales, which he truly cares about, he had to act like the very kind of Viking he despises. And over time, he kind of became what he hated most. That inner conflict shows up in the way he talks, too. If you notice and go back or rewatch some of the episodes, when he introduces himself as the son of Olaf or swears on Odin, he’s putting on his Viking mask. That’s his survival mode. But when he swears on Artorius or talks about his mother’s side, that’s when he’s actually being honest. It’s like his Viking side is tied to lies and survival, and his Celtic/Roman side stands for truth and ideals. His dad symbolizes the world he had to live in. His mom represents the world he wishes he could live in. Even his dynamic with Thorfinn ties into all this. He’s constantly frustrated with Thorfinn, not because he hates him, but because he sees potential. He wants Thorfinn to be better than him. Askeladd sort of wants Thorfinn to eventually kill him. Like it would be poetic justice. But he won’t make it easy. Instead, he gives Thorfinn the blueprint to be better. It’s like he’s saying, “Don’t end up like me. Take the story I’ve told you and do better.”

It’s so crazy how the show changed from us pillaging villages a couple episodes ago to us now being the right hand man of Canute. This is something i definitely couldn’t have predicted even though we knew since episode 10 we were gonna capture him and askeladd had plans to use the prince I still couldn’t predict what could’ve happen. These last few episodes really make you feel for askeladd especially since now with his backstory you just realize he’s the product of his environment and the way he grew up. It was either kill or be killed, so he chose to do the killing. The season finale episodes are gonna blow your mind!

On another note, thank you for the kind words you always have for me. ❤️ I am a sensible person, more than I let others see. And as you rightly said, real world events are happening outside the screen. I wish it was just an anime too.
