Loved your explanation on modern dance, thank you! You asked us to do a little research too and so I did. I wanted to share how one person attempted to explain the difference between ballet and modern saying that if ballet is more ethereal, then modern is more earthly. I loved that explanation because ballet is so light and airy with excellent posture, pointed toes and straight lines; where modern is more of a connection to the earth or ground, bare feet and the contraction of the torso a bit more. Within modern, there’s so many styles, like Horton or Graham. I know nothing about modern at all, but enjoy learning its origin. Modern sort of takes its base from ballet, and then contemporary takes its base a little more from modern, but you’re right, it’s a fusion of many dance styles. Though I appreciate those three forms of dance, my heart and what I enjoy watching is classic ballet. I love delicate, straight lines, pointed toes, light feminine movements.
