He sent them a mixtape with a letter saying he wants to be an artist who writes his own music, etc. That letter got lost for a whole year until KQ was moving building and they uncovered his letter and mixtape and gave him a call asking if he was still interested. He said yes (despite being in the process of signing with someone else.) When he signed a contract with KQ, they told him they would build a team around him within 6 months. He was alone at KQ with the ceo, the vice president and Eden (the producer) for 6 months. Then Yunho joined, Mingi followed Yunho (they've been besties since school days), then San (who had no dance experience, as you know) joined next, Seonghwa, Yeosang, Jongho and finally Wooyoung joined last. They were actually more or less a complete team at 7, but Wooyoung and Yeosang knew each other from Big Hit (Hybe) where they were both trainees together prior to KQ (they have also been friends for almost 10 years now) and when Yeosang left to go to KQ, Wooyoung said if he was going to succeed, he wanted to succeed with Yeosang and if he failed, he wanted to fail with Yeosang. When KQ asked Yeosang about Wooyoung, he told them they should give him a call and they did; Wooyoung joined because of Yeosang and completed the 8 makes 1 team.
