[BOYS PLANET] EPISODE 2

[BOYS PLANET] EPISODE 2

Comments

Haha thank you ! I can read korean but takes a hot minute to process what I read and can do a decent job of pronouncing it!

Jessica Holyfield

I liked Universe League Signal Song/Title Song We are Ready better..Most survival shows has these really high pitched signal song that are not really my favorite but Universe League title song was great, had rap and singing of different vocal ranges. Plus as a rap fan who listens to mostly rap heavy song I like We are Ready so much coz the song was so much in the hip hop genre! Plus I sometimes think in korea, people think only hitting high notes means someone is a good singer otherwise they are not and people don't understand that everyone has a different vocal range and not everybody can sing high notes. And some of these translations are off. In different videos, subtitles are different. Like the one I saw in which is Viki, BKY did not say horrible though. But I don't know korean so I can't say what the actual translation is. These translations also give viewers the wrong idea of what actually is being said! But the other sentence "Did you practice only Hero for a year" becomes a meme and no one takes it seriously anyway.

Pratiksha Majee

God it was so cute to see you try our the vocal technique with the tissue paper. That was so cute. Btw, did you learn to speak and read korean?

Pratiksha Majee

That was really sweet of Keita, and he really helped Jay a lot with his dancing. That reminds we me a lot of when JL from Universe League was helping his team as a vocal teacher in episode 2. It showed, that his team improved so much because of his help and he also benefited from that in remembering the song better. And it showed that JL has really knows his stuff (i.e. vocals/rap/ dance), when he can actually teach someone else .

Kirsten Esguerra

I love that you noticed this! Thank you for picking that up! Now I'll definitely be on the lookout for more subtle cues like that and I try have been appreciating how he has been showing himself through the show.. The Mnet gods blessed him haha.

Jessica Holyfield

I'm watching these SO slowly but life be life-ing so I'll comment as I see stuff and think of it lol. I don't know if you notice Hanbin kind of always being around and kindly helping other trainees. He was the one teaching Minkyu in the hallway then you get Doha and he's comforting Doha (though I'm sure it's because he knew all the Cube people bc of being a trainee there and was probably already a mentor/hyung/sunbae). These are the things I caught throughout the airing that really made me impressed about him as a person. As a traumatized ADHD ENFP I'm kind of always reading the room and noticing vibes (for good or ill) and he always seems to be kind of lurking around supporting other people which i find to be such a green flag. ETA: Full disclosure Park Gunwook is my bias and one of my favorite idols rn so I will be annoyingly singing his praises.

Lauren Freeman

literallyyy! you get contestants walking out and everything🤧

miajoon_

The things that come out of my mouth when we watch these episodes 😂😂😂😂

Jessica Holyfield

The male gaze/male gays homonym SENT MEEEEEEEEE

Lauren Freeman

Brooke this is such an encouraging comment to hear ♥️♥️ thank you for being here!!

Jessica Holyfield

I also watched two shows at the same time. I liked Peak Time so much and i was so frustrated that Hui participated in Boys Planet, he would be such a good contestant in Peak Time.

Aleks Percent

can i just say, i’m new to your channel and i’m really enjoying your perspectives and discussions. and i also love your attention to detail. i can’t wait for the next episode!!

Brooke

Thank you! Completely agree and I wish they were inclusive about how people can audition for the signal song… bless it 😂

Jessica Holyfield

In every survival show we hit the same issue with the vocal range of the contestants vs the vocal range of the signal song. All signal songs are quite high because they need to sound cheerfull and bright, but when the guys can't hit those notes I get really frustrated and they don't lower the key because, as I said it needs to sound bright. Also what about the people who raps? There's a rap part in signal songs. The signal song test is the most unfair part of the competition in every survival I've seen

Its Just Lustfly

THIS IS SUCH AN INTERESTING PERSPECTIVE ABOUT WOONGKI.... Completely agree with you about why would we be in a Project group with the SAME company that you left your group from.. Math doesn't math there. Lots of moments missed with showcasing other groups and I am hopeful other members were able to receive some love even if Mnet wasn't the best at doing that.

Jessica Holyfield

I remember watching both Boys planet and Peak Time since both shows aired around the same time and Peak Time was such a chill show with no bad blood and hardly any bad edits and then watching boys planet made me relize how much they edit just to create a narrative and really don't care lol They pushed hard on the bromance even the teaser pic looked like a Bl show lmao and they talk about Jiwoongs acting career even tho some of the other participants had also acted in bl dramas but mnet doesn't care about that also hilarious how mnet choses to mention which trainees already debuted and won't mention other trainees boy groups like in s4 of Pd101 mnet constantly mentions Up10tion who had a rise in popularity and even tho Up10tion members participated on Boys planet they literally got no shout out or screen time and cut the performances same thing happened with a lot of other artists cha woongi I feel really bad for he debuted through the mnet show To be world klass and his group TOO was made to complete on Road to kingdom literally as they debuted before boys planet he left his group tho the rumour is that he was kicked out for being to quote fruity as it didn't fit the image of his group his group TOO or TO1 is signed to Wakeone ent the same company that the produce groups sign to so zerobaseone company I just always found it really weird how he left his boy group for personal reasons all for his company to have him complete in another survival show to join a group that will debut under his old groups same company which obviously shows us he wants to be a singer and had no reason to leave TO1

AmB-O OlI

I can’t wait for next week! So for some reason episodes 3 - 12 are on Viu but not episodes 1-2 so that’s why they look a bit rougher in quality! Hopefully next week we will have no problems!

Jessica Holyfield

Sunmi and the trainees' reaction ijbol. Tears in my eyes, that was hilarioussss LMAOOOOO Also, I noticed the subs were a little bit off in this ep. I don't know where you're watching but If you don't know, I would definitely recommend using go play to watch shows from now on. Great subs and quality. As always, I love your reactions. So excited to get into the performances with you. Can't wait! <3

miajoon_

About Kim JiWoong. Yeah, he had a decent fan base, I found out about the show myself because he was going to be on it. His Behind the Scenes kiss scene (the best! Because there's nothing cooler than people enjoying their work!) got 3.7 million views on YouTube)) Well, some of us are still waiting for "Kissable Lips" season 2 T◡T

OrOrO

haha I'm really excited for the upcoming episode!!!!

Jessica Holyfield

Oh how fun!!!! Hopefully we will be able to give all the groups some love post show!

Jessica Holyfield

Yeah... Not the best time for teenagers in the survival shows... Hopeful to have gotten some healing either during the show or post! It's a hard mindset to work through!

Jessica Holyfield

This was super fun! Had a great laugh in some parts haha. I'm excited for the next episode as well! I plan on watching until the performances start and then I'll do the analyses just like I did for episode 1!

Jessica Holyfield

one thing that really annoyed me with the harsh criticism Yujin got for his dancing, was the fact he was 15 / 16 years old around filming. if it's someone who's been training/in the industry for years, I can kind of let it slide. but he had been dancing for only a year and was just very young

Rochella Duijs

Hi ! So happy to see the notification for this video ! So, about the masters and their feedback, like you said yes Mnet very much pushed some things. And yeah I would not judge any of the masters here, knowing how Mnet love to edit and even script their shows. Also fun fact, just around their debut, some of the members went to Back Koo Young Youtube show "Dope Club" and it's a very fun (and healing) episode. It's a really good video to watch after Boys Planet. I'm not going to lie, I can't wait for the next episode, we're starting with the actual performances and I can't wait to see what you think about them ! Thank you for the video and have an amazing day ! :D

Lexy S

The four boys who did the star test with the song NANA ended up debuting in a group together, and they added an additional member who was not from Boys Planet, creating a five-member group, TIOT.

Carlota Ornelas

Yeah just look up any Xfactor or American Idol audition and it turns into a roast battle between the judges and contestants lol

Zerose777

oh really?? did not know that, and yea i mean i get that they gotta be strict, cuz they need some push/motivation, but some of their comments are bit too much haha

Yoo Lee

I will say, I had mix feelings about Hui coming on this show since he has been active for quite awhile and isn't exactly an unknown idol. Plus he is a bit older than most of the guys on this show. So my inital thought would be, it'd be so awkward for him and the guys but you know what? I was wrong and had a complete change of heart on that thought. I do think he was a nice addition to the show, not just to bring in views and shock value but he got along fine with the guys and a lot of them turned to him for advice and support. In a way, Hui felt like a mentor who was guiding the trainees from the inside since he actually lived through it with them. Funny thing is, the show definitely made him out to be this old guy who's the most senior when in reality, he wasn't the oldest on the show nor the most senior. There was another trainee who was a year older than him and 2 guys from Up10tion who debuted a year before him. Anyways, Hui is great on this show and he recently appeared as a mentor on Starlight Boys where Daeul also competed on so he was having a hard time adressing Hui as a mentor when he addressed him as hyung, on this show. I think for the signal song practice, it looks like they just got to hear it. I don't think the guys got like rehearsal time or anything with it. Because I feel like if they did, they would've been way ahead by the time G-group got to start and it would've been noticeable differences? Also, throwing everyone in a room to learn the dance at the same pace I feel like was just the show doing it for drama content. It just seemed like such an inefficient way to learn because the guys all had varying dance backgrounds and it just seems to favor those who memorize dance moves quicker vs the ones who could potentially execute it better. The ones who get scolded were the ones who couldn't pick it up right away. Btw the "Did you only practice Kick It for years?" totally comes back to haunt Back kooyoung. It basically became a meme. But man! These mentors words were bad and they all got a lot of hate from viewers for them. I do like to think they said a bunch of nice things too that MNET cut out but who knows. They do seem to tone it down as the show goes on. Also, they mentioned at the very end that Yujin got sick and wasn't feeling well. Apparently a lot of guys got sick and it affected a lot of their evaluations. A handful of guys actually missed the evaluations and were automatically given a 0 star. It's one of those things that seems to happen on these types of shows but doesn't get talked about much. The downside of having 90+ guys living in close quarters with lack of sleep, whatever sickness they have seems to run rampant. As for the next episode/missions the first half of the episode is still on these performances and re-evaluations. Then they get introduced to the next mission, pick groups/songs etc and that goes through episode 4 (ep 5 is eliminations). So the performances doesn't actually start until about half way through the episode. Its up to you if you want to watch all the performances before the episode/ or watch part of the episode up until the performance/ or watch until the performance is coming up, pause, analyze, watch the backstory/performance on the show, then repeat. Whatever you prefer, though I personally think you should at least start the episodes, get through the mission introduction/set up so you at least know the context of what they're doing for that round and how the groups formed. Can't wait to see you watch their performances! And yes, it's called Gay's Planet or Boys Love Planet for a reason. These guys weren't afraid to show affection to each other and yes, Woongki is such a character here too. I love that you knew immediately it was him who was singing/dancing in the dark lol

Secretninja312 (Tina)

Korean survival shows are WAAAAY nicer than American survival shows where you can literally bully and make fun of the contestants. I think the mentors were also pretty understanding but strict, which I think is the best combo and taught them useful things.

Zerose777

i know sometimes they are forced by the producers but ugh, also i feel like they dont teach them much on the show or least thats what they showed us, i really hope shows like these could show us them actualy teaching

Yoo Lee

although boys planet is one of my fav surivial shows, i never get why korean shows loves drama so much, like first 3 episode those judges/masters are so mean, like its so unnecessarily
