This is SUCH a good unit... Like they mesh so well together and really give that SM tease with a hint of GEN 1/2 energy... Loving it over here! Such a great request Jey!!!

Oh em gee. I'm so excited to yap about this because not only is this one of my favorite NCT songs ever (as someone who's heard their entire discography down to the b-sides), it also has Doyoung (black hair/blue button up), who is my ultimate bias and personal favorite Vocalist in the entirety of K-Pop. He's actually doing a lot of the layers in the harmonies in the beginning and bridge of the song. The other two members are Jaehyun (starts the first verse) and Jungwoo (brown pants in the dance practice) This is one of my favorite concepts I've ever seen in K-Pop (as someone who go into K-pop back in the second gen), and my favorite thing is how they just really committed to it, the teasers for this debut were all perfume/scent based as well as the photo shoots and they even developed a DOJAEJUNG perfume for marketing where all three had a say in the composition of it and how they wanted to represent themselves as notes/layers in a perfume (they talk a little bit about in the Behind, actually). They seemed to have a lot of creative freedom and input into the concept and they definitely worked with the right people because that MV and this whole era definitely biased wrecked a lot of the fandom indeed. Even some people outside the fandom who normally don't lean towards NCT really praised this song and album. The chorus choreography is my personal favorite part of the piece, but a lot of people really love the "Yeah that's me" portion, it's not the challenge but it did go decently viral. I love it as well but there's something about the chorus that just speaks to me. Regarding their fullness/commitment, this is one of the cases where they just don't go as full out in the dance practice as they do the performances/mv, which is something particularly 127 does from time to time (they're all also in 127 lol). That's just another one of those NCT quirks that fans tend to find relatable/accept but it's definitely a risk that they take when it comes to people outside the fandom viewing it. There's a performance video in which they all (especially Doyoung) commit a bit more like they did the mv, and it's a more accurate representation of how they perform it live, if you ever want to check it out on your own time. It could also be fatigue. I'm not sure of the exact timeliness, but it's possible that two of the members (Doyoung & Jungwoo) were in grad school at this time, they graduated late year. Total speculation though lol. I'll save more yapping for later but I'm glad you enjoyed, loved the analysis as always but it's always just so much fun to watch people discover this particular subunit. And yeah, people definitely died and came back this era 🤣🤣🤣. This was suave tease-y (that seems to be their vibe as a subunit) but one of the b-sides they promoted was even more like whoa.
