You have NO IDEA how much I appreciate you taking the time to watch, absorb, and comment your perspective here. I feel like I have a better understanding of the show and I also have the opportunity to GROW as a new viewer to this show structure! What you are saying makes SO MUCH SENSE and I am so excited to be able to discover this for myself!

Definitely makes sense. I would think that all of the leaders would have the upmost compassion as all of them worked and debuted in another country where they themselves probably faced many challenges and setbacks, not the least of which involves navigating another country and another language. But sometimes people take those experiences and use them to justify their position with a "I had to go through this and I succeeded. If I did it you should be able to, too" attitude. They kind of forget that not everyone can process hardship the same. Looking at the later episodes I don't think this is the case, as everyone seeems very invested in helping the dancers succeed.

This is a great way of looking at it and I would agree with you here! I also come from the lens of having to have had to figure things out by myself to be where I am today so I am naturally more sensitive to helping people! I respect your perspective here and I didn't think that the leaders necessarily had to be the ones to meet them where they are, but be more understanding of the potential setbacks they experience because they have to figure a lot of it out amongst themselves if that makes sense!

Hmmm, I agree with you about meeting students where they are at, but I don't agree that it is entirely on the instructor or in this case the show to do this. I feel like they should meet in the middle. I think the show should have provided more instruction/ support. However, I would think that the type of tasks laid out for the contestants would be detailed before they signed up for the show. If that is the case, shouldn't the dancers get the most from their experiences and approach things with an open mind? I guess I am a humble type of person, I don't mind looking silly or failing at something, because I feel like failure is a part of learning.
Santa is a big stickler for approaching things with an open mind and having a good attitude. If you get to season 2 you will learn why, and it has some disturbing connotations. He is a phenomenal dancer but how he got there so young is a bit heart breaking.
