did not realize there was more to your question in terms of city pop until I hit play again LMAO
but essentially since city pop is japan's interpretation of retro western pop, it's still very much its own genre even within the western music industry so it wouldn't really just be pop or even retro pop. weirdly enough city pop sounds even MORE retro than the retro pop you hear for the past couple of years from western artists where they've been taking a lot of influences from the 70s through 90s like the weeknd or even a lot of kpop releases as well. like if you hear those songs you would think "oh wow this sounds a lot like the 80s" or something along those lines. and while city pop does invoke similar thoughts, I think what makes it different from just pop songs that sounds retro is that city pop also has a very dreamy soundscape to it and also a little more relaxed instead of making you want to dance. I would say city pop songs tend to be the type of retro songs you would listen to while on a drive at night than retro songs that you would dance to at a club if that makes sense. also city pop songs, the instrumentals tend to be louder than the vocals a lot of the times so it ends up being way more atmospheric. also there is a lot of japanese music influence within the genre as well which makes sense considering it's a japanese genre but if you listen to other japanese music, you can sort of pick up some similar sounds to what you would hear in city pop songs. so yeah, it is influenced by western retro pop but definitely still distinct enough from western pop to still be considered its own genre even if western artists were to release their own city pop songs
sorry if all of that barely made sense T.T I usually require a couple of hours to convey all my thoughts coherently LMAO

When it’s a MV with a behind the scenes and no dance, I tend to watch the behind more! We will be looking at some Halloween affiliated stuff over the next couple of days which is also fun! And when Christmas comes around, I’ll be wanting to look at some CMAS themed material!

I do think western artists are doing more city pop songs in recent years but not a lot tbh. usually if you hear a city pop song you KNOW it's a city pop song because it really does have a distinct sound to it

another fun song and the video is very cute too! I just love my girls so much
and you're so right, it does song similar to a doja cat song but it's probably because this song is city pop and doja cat (from what I've heard) does a lot of city pop as well. loonatic is also considered to be a city pop song as well btw
also! omg a behind the scenes video!! is there a chance of you watching more behind the scenes video and also just fun/promotional content that the girls have put out throughout the years? 👀 all of the loona members are very fun to watch and they're super chaotic LMAO probably one of the most chaotic groups I've ever seen and I've seen A LOT of variety content from other groups
