JAPAN was crazy for that quality!!! WILD I tell you! I truly enjoy getting to dive into BoA in this way so I MUST thank you for all the good vibes and recs!!! I also love that we didn't tone down BoA's hair choices through choreo but just put on headbands haha.

OMG the family tree is WILD haha. I am all for a melting pot of influence! It makes for some great moments in history and areas where people can learn about other cultures! Excited to unlock more of the major influences between Kpop and Jpop to the western market as we dive into more older groups!

It's interesting that you mention that the Korean ID Peace B choreo is trying quite hard to be different because it was actually the first choreo the choreographer ever made, which I definitely think could explain that, haha. The choreographer is Shim Jaewon, who debuted in an unsuccessful SM boy group (Black Beat) in 2002 and ended up becoming a SM inhouse choreographer and concert director. You might also know him as the red haired dancer who did the extended pair choreo with BoA in the Only One concert video I sent you a while back, haha. A lot of the Black Beat members actually ended up becoming SM in house employees after the group stopped being active. The choreography for Amazing Kiss was, incidentally, also choreographed by a member of a group--the legendary jpop band TRF. It was choreographed by a dancer in the group, Sam, who is also famous for briefly marrying the famous jpop diva Namie Amuro. The Amazing Kiss video is not remastered, btw--Japan was just that early to the HDTV trend. That is original footage from Japanese high definition TV in 2001! One of my favorite things to observe about baby BoA is how she REALLY did not know how to control her hair well when she debuted, haha. It flies all over the place in ID Peace B stages. Really funny to me that for a few promotion periods after that (like in this Amazing Kiss performance) she started wearing headbands and stuff to mitigate the problem, lol.

Yess more BoA! I don't have anything to add besides the raw live singing is chef's kiss, and I know from interviews a lot of the comments on that Amazing Kiss video are like "I watch this video when life is hard and I want to be invigorated and self-encourage myself. If this 15 year old girl is going all out in a foreign country this hard and working her heart out, then I can do what I have to do" 😭 Also to add onto the evolution of k-pop and its influences, I think another thing to mention and is pertinent here is that k-pop was also heavily inspired by j-pop and Japanese music/dance (which was way quicker to the hip hop/dance scene game than Korea), which itself was inspired and influenced by US. So it's like k-pop was influenced by West, but also by Japan which had its own version of Western influence (Japan also started the 'idol' industry in like the 60s etc and idol fan culture was molded from that too). So it's layers and layers of music/dance/choreo telephone games 😭
