Chapter 88

It sounded like Lady Dahlia and Minestra's discussions were coming to a close. Their voices fell to a hush, and the hell hound made her way for the exit.

"Whatever you're planning to do with the elf, it better work. Charron is expecting good news this time. We go back empty-handed again, he's going to demote me to fetching the morning papers on all four." Lady growled quietly at the thought.

Whatever magic that brought Noah to the surface consumed him into the floor. He vanished without a trace.

"Pft. Your failures have nothing to do with me. Be glad that I vouched to have you join me. How about you return the favor by joining me in a vekas?" Minestra asked, grabbing handfuls of her breasts.

"If I wanted to lay with vermin, I'd throw myself into the pig pens." Lady stormed out in a huff.

Kanae and Lilith shrunk between the crates to avoid being seen as Lady traveled deeper into the encampment. Minestra heaved a disappointed sigh and left the tent as well. With a wave of her hand, she opened a portal to summon two hulking demons to stand guard at the entrance, then walked off in the direction of the orgies.

"Let's check inside," Kanae said.

"What about the demons outside?" Lilith asked of the guards.

"Who said anything about going in from the front?"

Kanae drew her sword and cut a large enough hole for them to crawl through. It wouldn't matter if someone found out later. They were going to be long gone by then.

The tent inside was warm despite how chilly it was outside. After all, they were much closer to the mountains and bordered the demon domains. As Kanae tiptoed in, warmth emanating from a red crystal on a stick, kind of like a tiki torch, enveloped her body.

They investigated the war table first and were shocked to find that the map had marked the exact locations of their settlement, including that of Grell and Talon's. There were other marks spread out across no man's land, but the demons clearly treated the three as most important.

Stone pieces on the map were arranged according to shapes. Grell's settlement of Highgreen were triangles, Talon's was circles, and Kanae's village was squares. For some reason, there was a small circular stone at the outskirts of the squares.

"Mistress, you might want to see this." Lilith handed Kanae a letter that appeared freshly written and in beautiful penmanship, but left unfinished.

It was a report, ordering Talon to attack 'the succubus' village once Protectorate forces arrived in no man's land.

"That circular stone outside our village must be Talon's lookouts." Kanae cursed under her breath and thought aloud for a moment. "If Talon launches an attack while Protectorates invade us from the south, we're as good as dead. We have to make sure that doesn't happen. Thank goodness Minestra hadn't sent the letter yet. Now we know, and that gives us some time to prepare."

"We should escape while we can. Grell's son is of no concern to us. Our village is," Lilith said.

"That's where you're wrong. We need Grell, Noah, and their people on our side. Abandon them now, and we really will be on our own."

"But the longer we stay, the more we risk you being caught. Or worse. I can't bear the thought of these demons hurting you!" she exclaimed.

"Have you seen what we can do? As succubi, they should be afraid of us." Kanae smiled and stroked Lilith's cheek. She left the succubus servant to pick up the red crystal that was hot to the touch, then whistled sharply.

Both demons who were guarding the tent rushed inside, brandishing their giant weapons. Kanae immediately placed them under her charm, and the tension in their shoulders disappeared. She compelled one to hold out his hand to deposit the crystal into.

"In two hours, I want you to set fire to everything you can see. Demons, tents, and your resources. Everything. Is that clear?" Kanae asked.

"It clear. Burn everything in two hours," the beast of a demon said.

The concern in Lilith's eyes eased into relief.

With the time bomb set, they left the tent together in search of Minestra. She was the key to finding Noah, but coaxing her to release him would be another matter. Charming her might not be possible. Their level difference was likely too great.

As luck would have it, however, they ran right into Minestra herself upon turning the corner of a tent with Kanae planting face first into two pairs of breasts. She backed away, rubbing her nose, and the crimson demon gazed down at the two with scrutinizing eyes as black as obsidian.

"M-Minestra," they chirped quietly.

"I haven't seen you two before, but I like what I see. Who's unit do you belong to?" Minestra asked, her voice piqued with curiosity and caution.

"Captain— he died during the siege at Highgreen!" Kanae hastily recalled.

"Ah." The demoness searched her memory and just as quickly brushed it aside. "So you are leaderless. Then you must be placed under a new unit. Rejoice, ladies! Let that be I, Minestra Val'doun. Come. Let us acquaint ourselves more intimately."

Minestra threw an arm around their waists and led them back towards her command tent. It didn't seem as though the demon lieutenant recognized either of them. Lilith casted a worried look to Kanae, but shook her head that they should play along.

Other demons gasped and stood as straight as their erections when they saw Minestra. Female demons in particular tucked tail and ran. A passing giant, who didn't see them coming because he was deep into a barrel of grog, had his legs frozen solid. The demoness snatched the sloshing barrel for herself to chug from. She finished it all by the time they reached the tent, tossing it aside and shoving them onto the large bed.

Kanae gulped hard. Minestra had come seeking a vekas. Were they about to have sex? With a demon lieutenant? The anticipation was killing her.

As Minestra climbed seductively into bed, her cheeks taking on a deeper shade of red from the alcohol's effects, she held them both tightly and rolled around squealing like a child.

The fearsome visage of the demon lieutenant shattered like a rock thrown through a glass window.

"Where have you two been all my life? Other girls flee at the sight of me. Lady doesn't, but she never wants to cuddle! What do you say about becoming my concubines?" Minestra asked.

"Th-This is moving a little too fast for my tastes! We only just met!" Kanae exclaimed.

"Love at first sight! As Lord Charron's lieutenant, I can have whatever I want and can grant you whatever you desire. He gifted me a castle in the volcanic reaches of Suvius. Swear you will be forever mine, and I'll give the cushiest, most comfortable life you can ever want!"

Why was that such a tempting offer?

"I'll never be yours!" Lilith declared. "My heart belongs to—"

Kanae slapped a hand over Lilith's mouth.

"Who?" Minestra asked, tightening her piercing gaze on them and sending shivers up their spines.

"The fight! We're loyal to the war efforts in conquering the other races for Lord Charron!" Kanae answered.

"In that case, I shall redouble my efforts to destroy Lograin and Radevic. Then you two won't be able to help yourselves but to love me!"

"Er… Wait. Y-You don't have to be so gung-ho about it. There's plenty of time! Maybe put in minimal effort instead?" she suggested, hoping to talk her down from laying siege to any more cities.

Minestra was somehow perfectly fine with that, too. There was no sex to be had. The lovestruck demoness only sought affection from them and to give affection in return. They snuggled together like a puddle of puppies, soaking in physical comfort rather than sexual pleasure. She had plenty of foreplay and smooches to give, but it never went further than that.

"You promised to forever love and stay by this demon's side. If you're not leaving, I won't either."

"That was clearly a lie!" Kanae groaned. The outburst caused Minestra to twitch a little. She waited until the demoness settled before continuing. "It was only to keep her from being suspicious. One of us has to stay in case she wakes up."

"We'll leave together?" Lilith asked, almost fearful of the answer.

"That is a promise I'll keep. Release all the devil mutts and charm them into a rampage. Then we'll use the cover of the fire to escape. I'll find a way to get Noah," she said.

Lilith melted into Kanae's arms for a whole minute, then nodded. The succubus slowly crept out of bed so as to not awaken Minestra and tiptoed out of the command tent.

With her gone…

Kanae slinked down between Minestra's legs and hooked both arms around her knees. The demoness' snatch was wet with dew, with a single droplet streaking down her inner right thigh. Must be a good dream. Time to make it come true.

"That's all you want in exchange for your hand in marriage?"

Kanae bit back a retort and nodded.

To her surprise, Minestra waved a hand in the air to summon Noah back into the tent. Noah was awake now. His eyes went wide with shock first then confusion, seeing himself in the same room with Kanae and his captor.

The smell of smoke tickled Kanae's nose. Minestra and Noah smelled it, too. Piercing howls ripped through the night.

Minestra went for the exit, The demons who were guarding the command tent were gone. She drew open the tent flap and gazed up at the sky. A black and gray haze obscured the stars from sight, and demons were running amok in panic.

"What's happening?" Kanae asked, feigning ignorance to the commotion.

"We might be under attack. Stay here, my love. I shall return momentarily," Minestra said. She was about to wave Noah away until Kanae jumped in.

"I'll stand guard. He won't go anywhere while I'm here."

The demoness returned inside to embrace Kanae. It must have been her imagination, but she thought Minestra's pupils had turned into hearts.

"We shall continue where we left off upon my return," Minestra promised with a light kiss.

When she had gone, Kanae tried to untie Noah but a powerful shock threw her across the room.

"Ow? What was that?" Kanae whimpered in pain.

If it was magic…

Instead of approaching it normally, she casted Dispel instead. The restraints untied themselves.

"Thank The Many." Noah sighed after pulling off the gag. "For a second, I thought you were really with the demons."

"Minestra lays it on a little too thick for my liking. Let's go before she gets back!" Kanae urged.

The two ran out of the tent to an inferno creeping across the demon encampment. Demons were running all over the place, trying to put out the fires with magic and water. Her hunch was right on the money. That red crystal had to have been a salamander stone.

"Mistress, please reward me when we get home!" Lilith shouted, rushing to them from afar.

"Good work, Lilith! It's time to get out of here," Kanae said.

As they raced for the exit, a meteor crashed ahead of them. When the dust had cleared, it turned out to be Lady, snarling like a rabid dog.

"I thought I smelled a succubus. You were here all along? And you've propagated. I don't know how many of you there are, but I'm going to turn all of you into my personal chew toy!" Lady growled.

"Lady, wait! That's my future wife you're confronting!" Minestra yelled as she clamored up from behind them.

Kanae clicked her tongue. They had been surrounded.

"Minestra, you fucking idiot. That there is the meddling succubus! Don't tell me she's got you charmed?" Lady put a hand to her face and sighed.

"Is that true, my love?" Minestra gasped.

"If we've been caught, then there's no sense in hiding it anymore." Kanae shedded her cloak and let show the succubus form.

When Noah and Lilith glanced at her, they also gasped. Kanae couldn't fathom why. They were already aware of her being a succubus.

"You see? They were here to screw up our plans. Well, let's teach them a lesson." Lady beat a fist into her palm.

Minestra staggered back, hand to her chest and seemingly hurt that their love had been a lie.

Or so Kanae thought.

"I… I can change her!" Minestra passionately declared.

"Eh?" everyone uttered at once.

"This is the love story that I've been searching for!" she continued. "Of course, no love is perfect. She's just playing hard to get. Given enough time and patience, I can turn her around!"

"You don't even know my name!" Kanae fired back.

"Love transcends such petty concepts!"

"What have I gotten myself into…?"

"Enough! Demons, seize them!" Lady ordered, charging in alongside a horde.

Kanae, Lilith, and Noah braced for a fight until the giant devil mutt sent the demons flying in every direction.

"Not again, you stupid dog! Do I need to punish you some more?" Lady wrestled the devil mutt to the ground and bared her claws.

"Devil mutt, Bond!" Kanae formed a connection with the demon hound since they had previously been sexually intimate.

The empowered devil mutt's fangs grew larger, muscles bulged, and eyes beamed like the full moon. He punted Lady away, who landed on her feet and snarled.

"Don't let them get away! Bring my future wife back to me!" Minestra shouted, summoning dozens of stone golems from the earth.

Kanae carried Noah and Lilith on the devil mutt.

"Get us out of here, boy!"

The devil mutt sprinted off so fast, they had to cling onto tufts of fur so as to not fall off. Lady was hot on their trail, running on her hands and feet. Meanwhile, Minestra soared through the skies despite having no wings. It must be magic.

"I'll chase you to the ends of the world, my love!" Minestra yelled.

"It was just a fling! Dispel!" Kanae casted the spell which struck Minestra square in the chest, dispelling whatever magic gave her flight. She plummeted into the forest.

"I'm fine being friends with benefits, too—"

"At this speed, Highgreen shouldn't be much farther!" Noah assured them.

Minestra flew high into the sky again with an army of airborne golems and imps hot on their trail.

The devil mutt was getting tired, but they could see the walls of Highgreen and—

"Show them a taste of the three hells!" Grell led the defense, firing an artillery of magic spells into the sky that bombarded Minestra and her army. The blasts shelled the forest with such devastating firepower that Lady was forced to give up the chase.

"Father!" Noah waved.

"Inside now. Magisters, raise the barrier!" Grell ordered.

They crossed the threshold back into Highgreen, and a bright blue shield erected around them. Grell stormed up to Noah as he dismounted from the devil mutt.

"I'm sorry, father… I tried to aid in repelling the siege, but—"

Grell hugged his son and patted him hard on the back, then turned his eyes to Kanae and Lilith.

"You stood by your word to rescue my only family. For that, I am eternally grateful. The demons will not break through as long as our magisters stand vigil. It should grant us time to conduct… an alliance," he said.

"Well, you better find a nice seat. You won't like what we've got to say." Kanae frowned.

"Before that… Is it just my imagination, or do you look much different?" the elven man asked.

"How do you mean?"

Grell conjured between his hands a sphere of water and created an oval mirror to provide a reflection. When Kanae gazed into the mirror, a demon stared back at her. No, not just any demon. It was herself.

Her right horn had grown thicker and larger than the other, curving farther behind the head. The tail was no longer like a thin rope, but meatier at the base and ribbed with scales. Kanae's most drastic change, however, was her wings. A second pair on the shoulder blades had sprouted, greater in size than the one on her lower back and enough to wrap around like a blanket.

"Uh… Hello, new look?" Kanae muttered.
