Chapter 162

Kanae, together with Gretchen and Daya, crossed the lake at last after what felt like half an hour of flying straight through. It might as well have been an ocean they had flown over. They made out specks of light in the forest, likely from demon scouts who didn't think the Commonwealth would invade Artaggon but were careful enough to keep watch.

If they were going to make themselves known so easily, then Kanae figured she and her party should give them the same courtesy.

"Hello, there." Kanae smiled as she landed in front of a harpy and two horned demons, warming themselves up around a campfire.

"What the fuck—"

The two demons went for their weapons, and the harpy spread her wings to fly.

"You won't escape with Pacifying Chains on you." Gretchen's voice echoed eerily across the forest as golden chains wrapped around them.

As the harpy came crashing back down to the forest floor, the demons' weapons slipped from their hands. When they resisted, the spell's mana burning effect made them writhe painfully.

"Where did you take Mikki? She's a goblin succubus!" Daya angrily dragged a scarred demon right up to the fires.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait! I don't know anything about a goblin succubus!" he cried, rearing his head as far away from the licking flames as Mikki allowed him.

"Oh, yeah? Maybe a little roasting will jog your memories." She was about to push his face in until Kanae grabbed her arm.

"You're angry. I am, too. But there's an easier way to do this. Let me, okay?" Kanae said.

Daya steadied her quivering lower lip and let the demon go. She took a step back, letting Kanae sit the demon upright.

"Whew… They were right. You really are a lot less prone to violence than the Underqueen." The demon breathed a sigh of relief.

"Who's they? What's stopping me from charming you to walk into that lake to be fish bait?" Kanae asked, her eyes glowing with wrathful intent.

"They, uh… They… I'll tell you everything I know! Just don't hurt me!" he cried.

"Of course, you will." She placed a mind-controlling charm on the demon, and he immediately relaxed in her grasp. Enough that the Pacifying Chains spell shattered on its own because he was no longer a threat or resisting. Now that he had become compliant, it was time to get some answers. "An inspectator demon lieutenant by the name of Milton took my daughter and husband, a goblin succubus and a dark elf. Where are they?"

"If Lieutenant Milton has them, chances are they went to Garrison Charron. It's our largest operating base along the border. Fair warning, we're talking about big. You might want to rethink going there," he warned.

Great. This probably wasn't going to be like sneaking into the demon camps that first time or infiltrating the Protectorate headquarters. They were going to be high alert. Maybe Edina had the right idea after all…

"Lord Charron could be there, too, and that won't stop me!" Daya growled.

"Daya, you have to keep it together. We're just going to end up being captured with that attitude," Kanae said, rising to comfort her.

She backed away. "Why aren't you more concerned? You're just like the Queen-Mother after all, aren't you? Mikki's just a pawn to be used for whatever plan you have concocting in that scheming mind of yours. Just order these scouts to take us there, so we can save her already!"

Kanae squeezed her arms around Daya, who began to struggle like a wild animal, and cradled the angry succubus side to side. After a few seconds, maybe from exhausting herself, she calmed down.

"I never felt this way about anyone before. I thought I was only ever going to be lusted after as a succubus. That there's nothing for us except obsession and sex and serving. It's what my mom taught us… then Mikki came along. I just… I love her so much," Daya mumbled quietly in Kanae's chest.

"I know. I love her, too. I want to save her so we can continue loving her. I'm sorry the Queen-Mother made you think this way, but you're wrong about me. The only scheme brewing in my head is how I can pay the demons back for taking Mikki away from me," Kanae explained, stroking the back of Daya's head and noticing that Gretchen was staring rather hard. As soon as they locked eyes, the enthralled high elven priest glanced away.

"That was all touchy, but you're still not getting them back. It'll be suicide for just the three of you," the harpy said.

Probably. But like Daya said, that wasn't going to stop them. Kanae let go of Daya to place the other two under her charm.

"What's the plan?" Daya asked.

"Nothing's changed. We're going to get a look at Garrison Charron for ourselves… I can't believe they named it that… Once we know what we're dealing with, we go back to the others and consider our options. One thing's for sure: we're getting Mikki back before we return to the Commonwealth," Kanae said.

The charmed demons and harpy began their march towards their garrison. They ventured deep into the forests, avoiding distant lights of other scouting parties. Along the way, Gretchen matched her pace with Kanae.

"I didn't realize a succubus could care so much about her children," Gretchen said.

"Why wouldn't I?" Kanae returned curiously.

"Marwin Fransk wrote extensively about the succubus race. In his journal, succubi cared about their daughters insofar as they continued to propagate or be of service. You're not like that at all. You seem to care for them unconditionally."

"Not seem. I do care for them unconditionally. That closed-minded nature of yours is why I defeated you. We probably could've worked together without needing to enthrall you, but you just couldn't stand a succubus Knight of Color and a human Grand Eye."

Gretchen folded her hands together and stared down in shame. It looked like she took those words to heart, but Kanae had no way of knowing her true thoughts anymore. They might be too twisted in depravity now. Would she still be the same Archbishop Gretchen if the effects of Enthrall were gone?

"We're nearing the garrison soon. Stay low to the foliage," the scarred demon alerted from the front.

They walked no farther than the break in the forest. A defensive wall stood between them and the inside of Garrison Charron. Many guards patrolled along the outer rim, and countless more marched along the ramparts. The walls, however, couldn't hide the giant black keep within.

"Geez. How many people are in there?" Kanae asked.

"Not sure about the real number," the harpy began as she scratched her tail feather. "Maybe eight thousand and two hundred workers?"

"What? How are they able to provide the upkeep on so many?" Gretchen gawked.

"Heh. It helps when we have the strength to conquer people to do it for us," she sneered.

Some of the pieces were falling into place the more Kanae thought back. However, they didn't have time to waste. Neither did Mikki.

The group was right beneath a tower. Half-way up, there were several brattices, structures on the wall that protruded outwards with a hole for defenders to attack down safely from within. It should be large enough for them to enter.

Kanae ordered her charmed scouts to stay put. They waited until the ground patrol passed, then raced up to the foot of the wall before someone from the battlements saw. With their backs pressed to the wall, Kanae and Daya lifted Gretchen to the brattice. One by one, they squeezed through the hole. The other two entered just fine, but Kanae got stuck from the waist down.

"Don't tell me my butt's too big?" Kanae groaned.

Daya and Gretchen pulled Kanae by each hand until she popped through. They tumbled to the ground inside the floor of an archer's nest. Many types of bows sat on their racks, and countless crates of arrows and bolts were stacked on top of each other. Slat-sized openings in the wall let moonlight through into the otherwise dark room.

The three helped each other to their feet just as an imp opened the door, holding a torch and whistling merrily to him. Merry, until he met their gazes.

"Uh. 'Scuse me. Musta took a wrong turn!" The imp tried to close the door, but Kanae caught him with her whip and yanked him into the room.

Daya quietly shut it behind them.

"Milton should be here with two captives, a succubus and a dark elf. Where are they being held?" Kanae asked, charming the imp for answers.

"S-Safest place in the garrison. Under the keep!" he exclaimed.

Kanae walked over to the side of the room facing into the encampment. At the dead of night, the only ones roaming about were patrols. Most had likely already turned in. In addition to the keep, there were two adjoining barracks full of soldiers. The place had a training ground, a giant stable and field for their mounts, and multiple smithies.

Someone started sniffing heavily from behind. Kanae spun around to Gretchen squirming in place, her thighs squeezed together and eyes fixed on the stables.

"I can smell them… the many demonic stallions are waiting for me… Please, allow me to go to them." Gretchen panted.

"What's up with this broad?" the imp asked.

"She likes riding equine monsters." Kanae sighed, then shook Gretchen to her senses. "Keep your horniness in check. Once we save Mikki and get home safe, I'll find you some healthy mars and languis."

Gretchen swallowed hard and nodded.

"Will we really be able to do this? Just the few of us against… so many?" Daya asked, her confidence waning.

"Hmm. Edina is our biggest trump card. Once the battle breaks out, there's no telling what will happen. We have to enter the keep right away, rescue Mikki and Noah, and escape before they can mount a counterattack. We'll be stuck otherwise. Where would the most vulnerable part of the garrison be to break out from?" Kanae wondered to herself.

"That'd be the stables," the imp said. "Wall ain't so thick there. The stablehands let our beasts out through a wooden gate every now and then to let them work their legs."

After committing to memory the image of Garrison Charron, the three quietly exited from where they entered and returned across the lake to the others. By then, Kanae's daughters and Nelly had fallen asleep with Tiny's tail laid over them for warmth. Arenade laid on the ground, cocooned in a sleeping roll so only her head was visible and snoring loudly.

"Master, you were gone for longer than we expected." Esta rose from the campfire to welcome them back.

"What's the plan?" Edina asked from a cot, tossing foraged acorns into her mouth. "Tell me you're gonna set me loose tomorrow."

Kanae nodded and began drawing a rough map in the dirt with her tail. "The camp has a little over eight thousand, so that's exactly what we're going to do. We'll start the very next night once everyone's in place. Esta and Gretchen, I'm leaving my daughters and Nelly in your hands. Once the fighting starts, take stables here. Arenade, Eliza, and I will fight our way into the keep to break Mikki and Noah out, then we leave through the stables."

"What about me?" Daya pointed to herself.

"You stay with Esta, too. I'll bring Mikki back to you, I promise. The demons want pure succubi. We can't risk them taking you," she explained.

Daya clearly didn't like that.

"Amethyst, a word?" Eliza beckoned from the edge of the water.

"Something about the plan to object to?" Kanae asked.

"I am not a sorceress to stick with a single plan. If things are to go awry…" She grabbed Kanae's hand and dropped a teleportation pellet into her hand. "I only have one. I worked with Headmaster Hayson to tune the destination to his BDSM dungeon. It can only take a few people. You understand what I'm saying?"

Kanae stared down at the tiny magical device and nodded. She and Eliza were about to turn in for the night until they noticed Daya digging herself a hole. Her canine legs and hands carved into the dirt like drills, and she made herself comfortable alone within the little depression in the earth.

"Whatcha are you doing?" It was Teana, awake and kneeling by the hole in front of Daya, who asked.

"What does it look like? I'm trying to get some sleep…" Daya turned the other way, but Teana skipped to the other side.

"You should come sleep with us! It's warmer together. Me, Pan, Revah, and… Mikki cuddled up all the time when we were small. I know you're feeling guilty about what happened, and… I just want you to know that we don't blame you at all. Tomorrow, let's save her together. Tonight, let's stay warm together." The happy-go-lucky goblin succubus extended a hand to her apprehensive canine counterpart.

Very hesitantly, Daya reached up. Not fast enough for Teana apparently. She snatched her hand and dragged her over to the others, accidentally stepping over Nelly on the way.

"Teana, god damn it…" Nelly mumbled groggily.

"Your kids. I think they shall be the future of Amethyst, don't you think?" Eliza smiled.

"Hey, I haven't relinquished my mantle yet," Kanae fired back.

Most of the next day was spent plotting out their assault on Garrison Charron. When the sun began to set, it was time to put their plan into motion. Unfortunately and to Tiny's dismay, the poor pup would have to stay. There was no foreseeable way to get him across, and the way around was too long.

"There, there, boy. We'll be back soon. With Mikki, too!" Teana stroked the devil mutt's snout.

Tiny whimpered and licked Teana's hand in response.

Well, it was better this way. They could conceal themselves in the forest, but any demon with eyes could see Tiny coming from a mile away.

After going over the plan one more time, the party set off across the lake immediately. It was dark by the time they reached the other side. The same charmed scouts from the other night were there to meet them, and thanks to their guide, they avoided the patrol routes of other groups.

At last, Kanae was at Garrison Charron again. She sensed Mikki on the other side somewhere within the keep. The imp she had caught last night said their prisoners were held underneath. For some reason, her internal radar was showing Mikki on an upper floor rather than below.

Kanae nodded to Esta and Gretchen to skirt around to where the stable was located. She hugged each of her daughters.

"Seriously, we're not playing around out here. Listen to Esta. If she says run, run. If she says hide, hide. Do you all understand me?" Kanae asked in a strong tone.

"We understand," they replied.

As they left, Daya took one last look at Kanae before following them.

"Leave it to Charron to name this garrison after himself. That dumb idiot. Honestly, what's wrong with his naming sense?" Arenade complained.

"You can make fun of him later. You two ready?" Kanae asked Arenade and Edina.

The ones who remained gave Kanae an affirmative, so she in turn gave Edina the go-ahead.

"Okay, you numbskulls. Wakey-wakey. Time to lend me your powers again!" Edina whacked the Pillar of the Damned against the side of a tree.

"Ow! What the… You can be a little more gentle," one of the skulls groaned.

One by one, their empty sockets lit up. The brazier at the topmost skull ignited with an intense flame.

"Arise, Legion of the Dead! Lay waste to my enemies and bring me the strong ones to raise again!" Edina bellowed.

The ground shuddered. Fissures formed all around them as undead emerged from portals. Others punched through the earth's surface to join their ranks. The horde donned all manner of armor from rusty chainmail to tattered gambeson, wielding weapons that ranged from partially broken to pristine in make.

"We're under attack? It's the necromancer! Sound the horns!" Someone on the ramparts saw them coming and alerted the garrison.

Soon, thunderous horns bellowed from all directions. The iron gates slammed shut. Magical and non-magical projectiles rained down on Edina's army, but their numbers were endless. They piled on top of and climbed over each other to scale the walls.

"Edina, that's good! Head to the next area now!" Kanae shouted, but the necromancer wasn't listening. Instead, Edina continued raising undead like in a trance. "Edina!"

Edina shook her head as though snapping out of a reverie. "M-My bad, I zoned out a little… I'll go now!"

The necromancer raised her undead dragon and jumped upon it. They flew over and past the gate, where she summoned four death knights that plummeted down.

A heavy crash was all Kanae heard, followed by the clash of steel and war cries from their battle inside. Edina, upon her undead dragon, soared to another section of the wall to bombard them with more death knights.

"Cower at my fearsome might, the greatest necromancer to ever walk this world! You get an undead, and you get an undead! You, too, puny guardsmen. This all you got? Where's all the strong ones? Don't be afraid and step up to fight! I'll raise your soul into a death knight! Ahahaha!" Edina cackled loudly into the night.

"Uwah… Isn't she having too much fun with this?" Arenade asked.

"While the garrison is distracted, now's our chance!" Kanae unfurled her wings to fly up. She was joined by Arenade with her Halo and Eliza on her broom.

From the battlements, archers fired a volley of arrows. Eliza pulled deep from her pipe and expelled fumes that transformed into a flock of ravens. They took the arrows, and the surviving ones nosedived to attack the archers.

As they flew towards the keep, garrison soldiers were spilling out from the barracks like the flood. They mounted a powerful counterattack with devastating spells from their mages. The attack annihilated scores of lesser undead, but Edina's death knights soaked all the punishment and came out unscathed. Kanae, Arenade, and Eliza had to peel their eyes away from the carnage to get back to the task at hand.

"The portcullis into the keep is closed!" Eliza directed their attention to the entrance.

"There's a balcony! Follow me!" Arenade zipped ahead with the other two following close behind.

They entered what appeared to be an armory. However, none of the weapon racks and armor mannequins had been disturbed. Weren't they supposed to be outside fighting right now?

"Sh. Listen." Eliza pressed a finger to her lips and pointed to the door.

Amidst the cacophonous battle of steel and magic outside, a gentle music played like the warm sun rays on a chilly morning.

"Anyone feel like sitting down? I could go for a glass of wine…" Arenade said, taking a seat and appearing lethargic.

"It's magic. Someone's emitting a magical aura, cover your ears!" Eliza exclaimed.

They did just that, but whatever the effects were wasn't subsiding.

"Eliza, do you have something like a silence spell to put on us?" Kanae asked.

"As a Sorceress, I don't have such a skill… it has to be by a… Goodness, why are we even resisting?" Eliza sighed, slumping against the wall.

At this rate—

"Curse of Deafening!"

Kanae glanced at the window they entered from. Daya climbed in without making a sound. All the noise earlier was suddenly gone. She pointed to her ears and crossed both arms to make an X.

When Kanae tried to ask what Daya was doing here, no words came out. Only silence. However, Arenade and Eliza had steadied themselves and were perfectly fine again.

It seemed they owed their thanks to Daya this time, but the look on her face showed anything but relief. With little other choice, they walked out of the armory together and weren't prepared for the sight before them.

Opening the door pushed two naked demons away. Up and down the corridor, demons and other races were screwing. Literally fucking. Kanae's first thought was a vekas. But they didn't care that they were under attack, too busy with the orgy going on.

Cautiously and with Lust drawn, Kanae stepped over a couple of male imps gangbanging a female demon. They drenched her legs in cum. When Kanae glanced over her shoulder, Arenade got the same treatment. She started yelling in silence, kicking the imps one after the other.

They finally reached a set of large doors behind which Kanae sensed Mikki. She looked each of her companions in the eyes, then pushed open the doors. Standing on top of a long table was a dark elven succubus dressed in black and white, strumming the lute in her hands like she was rocking out. She wasn't alone. An audience in the chamber were also naked, arms linked, and kicking their feet to whatever tune Kanae couldn't hear.

The succubus took a running start, jumped and slid on her knees, skidding down the table while knocking plates and candelabras off. She stood up and took a bow. Her pierced lip curved into a big smile, but it flipped into a frown. She lifted a finger to her ear and rolled her eyes.

Suddenly, Kanae could hear again.

"What's up, rockers? You missed my crescendo! Kinda rude to come to a concert with ear plugs," she said.

There was only one succubus that Kanae was warned about when coming here, and that was—

"Labelle." Daya gasped.

Labelle jumped off the table and landed in front of them.

"In the flesh, baby!" Labelle did the devil horns sign with her free hand.

"Mistress of Debauchery." Kanae chewed on her lower lip, frozen solid with hesitation and swallowing hard. "What are you doing here? What happened to Milton and where's my daughter!"

Labelle stepped aside to reveal several people seated on the table. Noah, Mikki, and Mitty were bound to the seat and gagged. Their eyes were glazed over but all three were clearly still conscious.

"Mikki!" Daya and Kanae jerked forward, but Labelle stood in their way again.

"Ta-ta-ta." Labelle wagged her tail. "I went through all the trouble of taking care of the big fat eyeball for you, gave your loved ones a concert, and you're not even gonna give me the time of day? A bard needs attention to live!"

"How's this for attention! Holy Armament: Big Fucking Hammer!" Arenade swung at the succubus' head.

"Holy shit, that hammer is metal as fuck. Buuuuut I got you beat!" She strummed her lute once.

A wave of force sent them crashing backwards, ears ringing and bodies on the verge of climaxing. The piercings on Kanae's nipples vibrated intensely, stinging her with pain and pleasure.

"What was that?" Arenade squealed.

"Somatic… magic? This succubus is crowned a Bard?" Eliza asked, squeezing her thighs tightly together.

"I'm here to talk. Succubus to succubus. The others can watch like voyeurs. That's what an audience is for! What say you, rocker? I got a proposition for you." Labelle smirked, extending Kanae a hand.
