2019-01-01 21:07:28 +0000 UTCI don't think Alec is upset that Magnus is keeping mementos of previous loves. It's simply the implications that has for their relationship. They don't really address it in the show directly, but book canon is that Shadowhunters tend to marry and have kids young because, as demon fighters, they don't tend to have very long lifespans. So while Alec knew, in the abstract, that Magnus was immortal and would outlive him, seeing the box and now being in a completely different place in his relationship with Magnus has made that reality far more concrete. As for Magnus, his coping mechanisms are mostly based on avoidance and denial, while Alec's are to confront things more directly. So Magnus just wants to not talk about it because there's nothing he can do about it, while Alec is all, "we need to deal with this." So yeah, there's gonna be conflict.
